2018: Oracle buys goBalto

The Oracle corporation declared on October 17, 2018 the plans to redeem goBalto Inc. company, the developer of a cloud platform for management of clinical trials. Transaction amount is not disclosed, however it is known that earlier this startup attracted more than $37 million from several investors, including one of the largest producers of semiconductor products Qualcomm. Among the clients goBalto calls, in addition to other, pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.

The goBalto platform is designed to simplify process of deployment and management of clinical trials of the centers where the pharmaceutical companies hold testing of new drugs.

According to representatives of Oracle, creation of such center can take up to seven months. Functions of the goBalto platform allow to accelerate considerably process by means of automation of procedures which developers of drugs, as a rule, perform manually.

The platform helps the pharmaceutical companies to find platforms for carrying out tests, to define as far as they are suitable for their purposes and to coordinate the preparatory transactions preceding the beginning of tests. All these procedures accelerate as a result on average for 30%. Considering that development of one new medicine sometimes costs $2.6 billion, acceleration leads to more than significant economy.

As of October, 2018 as affirms as the press release of Oracle, the goBalto platform is used in 90 thousand research complexes where 2000 tests are in total carried out.

Oracle most of all known as the developer of databases, actively develops the division Health Sciences focused on the medical industry; in its portfolio — several specialized developments which were already widely adopted in the field of health care. Not later than in September, 2018 Oracle signed the contract with the large medical center Cleveland Clinic for creation of a cloud platform for management of transactions of this center.
