The network is ready, among other things, to multiply the number of visitors during periods of pre-launch shopping.

Technical specialists have introduced a similar solution in the new four-story building "Meeting Place Planet," where lectures, holidays and master classes will be held. High-speed Internet will allow guests to comfortably use instant messengers and banking applications, and participants in events will be able to share their emotions and impressions of events on social networks in real time.

MegaFon has upgraded more than 570 base stations in the Moscow Region as part of a refarming program - the transfer of frequencies used in 2G networks to the modern LTE standard. This made it possible to significantly increase the data transfer rate for residents of the Moscow region on a vast section from the Moscow Ring Road to the Central Ring Road, MegaFon representatives said on November 30, 2023.

At the first stage - in the summer of 2023 - MegaFon specialists optimized the 2G network and designed a frequency-territorial plan of the region where the refarming took place.

Thanks to this, it was possible to supplement the current 2G network with a new LTE-1800 range that allows you to use the Internet at high speeds. With the advent of an additional range, the volume of packet Internet traffic increased by 20%, and the speed of downloading data per subscriber increased by more than 18%. As a result, residents of the Moscow region can now send large files, stream and watch films in high resolution.

Modernization of the network at the Central Ring Road

MegaFon has upgraded the network on the Central Ring Road (TsKAD) with a length of 336.5 kilometers. The updated equipment was installed on five sections of the route, which made it possible to increase the quality of voice calls and the speed of the Internet on the highway. Modernization of the network in 26 cities of the Moscow region

MegaFon on January 30, 2023 announced that it had improved the quality of communication for 3.5 million residents of the Moscow region. The network modernization program affected Balashikha, Voskresensk, Dmitrov, Domodedovo, Istra, Kolomna and 20 other cities in the region.

During the implementation of the program, the 1800 MHz range began to be used exclusively for 4G, and part of the 900 MHz spectrum was also transferred to the modern communication standard. The remaining capacity will be enough to, as before, provide voice communication in 2G at a high level, the company noted.

According to MegaFon estimates, the use of new ranges has helped to increase the speed of mobile Internet by 30%, improve the coverage and penetration of the network inside buildings both in small towns and in large cities. The work mainly took place in residential neighborhoods, where the cellular signal in some locations may be weak due to dense development. To amplify the signal, MegaFon used the 800 MHz band, which has a high penetrating capacity.

After the modernization of the existing infrastructure in these cities, the capacity of base stations increased by 3 times, which also made it possible to speed up mobile Internet.

Subscribers living in the largest cities near Moscow spend about 50% of all mobile Internet traffic on social networks, video content and instant messengers. The high speed of the Internet is especially important for using these services, so MegaFon combined the existing LTE bands, which made it possible to increase the peak speed of mobile Internet for subscribers by 2 times. With the help of aggregation, it approached 5G.

When planning the development of the network, MegaFon analyzes big data on the consumption of mobile traffic in each location and predicts a further increase in load using artificial intelligence. Based on these calculations, the company's specialists determine the places where the construction and modernization of infrastructure will improve the quality of communication for the maximum number of subscribers.
