2020: Apple purchased Vilynx

At the end of October, 2020 it became known that Apple purchased the Barcelonian startup of Vilynx specializing in artificial intelligence technologies and computer vision which can distinguish objects on video. The iPhone producer intends to use these practices for improvement of a number of proprietary applications and services.

The Spanish company Vilynx developed technology which uses AI for the analysis of visual, sound and text content of video to understand what on it is shown. Earlier this technology was used for creation of tags which allow to look for quickly and effectively video in network.

Apple purchased the company at the beginning of 2020 and paid about $50 million. After the conclusion of the transaction in Apple there were about 50 engineers and data processing specialists, including the cofounder and the technical director of Vilynx Elisenda Bou-Balust. According to sources, Apple also reserved the Barcelonian office Vilynx and intends to make it one of the main research and development centers of the company in the field of AI in Europe. Judging by the available data, Apple already began to employ engineers for office.

It is supposed that Apple can apply new technology in work of the digital assistant to Siri and in algorithms of the search system. Such AI algorithms can also be used in the Photos application that users could find photos on a key word similar to search of video. Apple can also use new technology in algorithms of recommendations for the TV and News applications to offer users content, significant for them.[1]
