WaveAccess Govori.org Online communicator

Govori.org is the online communicator on the basis of the system of alternative communication intended for children and adults with problems of speech development, parents and teachers of correctional schools.

govori.org is the website with ready library of cards: pictures with text designation of the represented objects, actions, emotions and a possibility of their postscoring. Cards can be created independently, to create sets for audio of reproduction and to design templates for printing. The functionality of the portal allows users to study, communicate among themselves and with people around through tablets or the computer.

Govori.org: Interface

The solution includes 4 sections:

• "Cards"
  • The section of Card allows to use cards from library and also to create the pictures. It includes the filter on preset to categories and search, allows to change scaling and quantity of browsed cards on visible area of the page.

• "Sets"
  • In the section Sets the user can group cards.

• "Communicator"
  • In Communicator the created sets can be compiled in offers and to reproduce them, thus communicating with people around in real time.

• "Templates"
  • Using the portal it is also possible to create and print templates which are used further in the mechanical visual-aural stations GoTalk.

The online communicator allows parents and teachers to adapt the program individually for each child. The communicator is provided on a free basis.

A system is unrolled based on CMS Drupal that allows including to support access control on the basis of the user roles. The software product is available on popular browsers: Mozilla Firefox Safari for tablets Internet Explorer Google Chrome.

The web application was constructed on the basis of React JavaScript-framework — it allowed to put in a scaling option in combination with flexibility and power. A Backend-part is implemented using Python on the Django platform.

2018: Development

The WaveAccess company in January, 2018 completed the project on development of an online communicator of govori.org on the basis of the system of alternative communication. The solution helps children and adults to communicate with total or partial loss of the speech among themselves and with people around. The communicator has advanced functionality, is available on computers and tablets and is free for use.

The govori.org portal is long-awaited result of huge work of many people. The solution is constructed on the system of alternative communication and is conceptually similar to foreign analogs, at the same time does not copy them and offers much more functions and opportunities. We for the first time created a product for people with special needs that, of course, demanded from a command of special approach. Our specialists solved two difficult problems: submitted the interface, natural, functional and easy for mastering, developed taking into account features of users and also proposed the solution for work with audiocomponents on different browsers — Alexander Azarov, the senior vice president for software development in WaveAccess told.

The govori.org web application is developed for the American charitable foundation Orange Penguin Foundation which assists in Russia to people with special needs for increase in their social, educational, communication and physical capacities. The communicator is implemented under the auspices of the Free access program — within an initiative the fund on a grant basis provides the necessary equipment and software to families, the rehabilitation centers, special educational institutions and other organizations.

The issue of integration into society of people with special needs becomes more and more open for discussions. We believe that auxiliary technologies are capable to make life better and, the main thing, everyone should have to them access. Specialists around the world develop special devices and software solutions, but they are often unavailable at the price or have limited feature set. The task of our work with WaveAccess was to create the high-quality, convenient and available instrument of communication. The command continued to finish the solution how the basic functionality was implemented – any more not as business, and as keen people — Irina Kuznetsova, the director of Orange Penguin Foundation told.
