2019: Closing of the messenger

On January 14, 2019 it became known that the management of the Veon group (its Russian "subsidiary" VimpelCom works under a trademark Beeline) made the decision further not to develop the mobile application of the same name in the current type.

The director of business development in business market of other "daughter" of Veon - Kyivstar - Evgeny Krazhan reported about it.

Because of a zakrytiiya of the Veon platform of the places will lose 100 people at offices Veon in Great Britain and the Dutch capital of Amsterdam whose work was connected with technologies.

The office Veon in Great Britain will be completely closed. 90 more people at head office Veon in Amsterdam will also lose work with the purpose to reduction of operating costs. So all without work there will be 190 employees of Veon.

Understanding of that fact that the different countries in which operators of group work have a different need became the reason of closing of Veon. Now the operators entering into Veon will be able to solve what applications to them to use.

The press service of Veon confirmed that the proposal on the termination of promotion of the application of the same name is really made. For January, 2019 this offer is discussed with employee representatives who were engaged in it.

Veon was available to all Internet users, and subscribers of the operators entering into the Veon group could continue by it to use even after exhaustion of the paid traffic limit. Besides, in the application it was possible to use a personal account of the subscriber of the relevant mobile operator.

After change of the CEO signs that the Veon application will not move ahead further began to appear. For example, subscribers of VimpelCom and Kyivstar lost an opportunity to work through Veon with the personal accounts: operators suggested to use the corporate applications for these purposes.

2018

In the spring of 2018 the CEO of Vimpelcom Jean Yves Charlier left the company. Its place was taken by the former CEO of Xerox, American Ursula Burns.

The Veon group in 2018 sold the share in the Italian mobile operator Wind Telecomunicazioni.

2017

Start of the mobile platform Veon in Russia

The VimpelCom company (a trademark Beeline) announced on July 19, 2017 start in Russia of the digital Veon platform. The messenger is developed by the headquarters of the group of the same name in Amsterdam, for Russia the product was localized and improved programmers from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk.[2]

Veon is available to subscribers of any mobile operators, but for subscribers of Beeline traffic in the application will be free. At a zero balance of the account of the subscriber the messenger will continue to work.


What includes functionality of the application

  • Message exchange (audio/video/photo) using a corporate set of smiles is Vemoji;
  • Free calls by IP-telefonii channels;
  • An opportunity to manage via the messenger a personal account of the user of Beeline.

What is unavailable

  • Sending simple files;
  • Calls on external numbers;

Other opportunities

As emphasize in VimpelCom, Veon is not just the messenger, and the platform (marketplace) for distribution of digital services from partners. For example, for the user of the application the personified news feed will form.

The Rambler holding became the media partner of the application. The organization of personal channels with a photo and video content from celebrities is planned.

In the application there is a set of movies and TV programs, available to viewing, also the musical photograph collection in the future will appear. At the global level partners of Veon are the music service Deezer and the producer of short films Studio+, but in Russia partnership with them did not earn yet.

Besides, integration into Veon of MasterPass service is planned thanks to what users will be able safely to recharge and also to pay the goods and services purchased via the mobile platform "in one contact". At the same time, there is no possibility of payment of services from the account at the operator. Rather possible partnership with Visa in VimpelCom reported that are ready to cooperation with different services.

Privileges from partners

Partners of Veon prepared different privileges for users of the application. So, Lamoda and Masterbots online stores will provide to users of Veon of a discount. The service of online courses Skyeng is ready to give to users of Veon several free lessons of foreign languages, and Burger King will issue free of charge chiken-nagets.

For VimpelCom Veon will be means of deduction of subscribers, and in the future the operator will try to earn from separation of income from the services sold by partners.

Availability

The Veon application is already available in the directory of Google Play. In the nearest future it will appear App Store. In plans of the company — release of the version for desktop computers.

Agreement with Mastercard on integration with Masterpass service

The MasterCard company announced in March, 2017 cooperation with the international communication and technology company VEON (earlier — VimpelCom) as a result of which the Masterpass service will be integrated into the VEON platform.

By this time the Veon company offers a mobile service and Internet access, the fixed broadband access and digital television of more than 235 million users in 12 countries. It is going to offer the subscribers an opportunity to recharge and also to purchase content and other goods and services via the new mobile platform Veon using Masterpass online service from Mastercard.

With Masterpass users of Veon will have opportunities of fast and safe payment in one click — whether it be account replenishment mobile or purchase in online store. Masterpass stores all payment information, including data of bank cards of both Mastercard, and other payment systems, in one safe place. To make transaction, it will be rather simple to users of Veon to click Payment of Masterpass.

It is expected that a broad base from 235 million subscribers of Veon and integration into the new platform of Masterpass service which will make mobile payments even more conveniently will allow telecommunication company to become the attractive partner for trade and service companies as purchases will become simpler what can promote revenue growth of retailers and decrease in their costs. It will also allow Veon to open for users access to new services via their mobile devices.

Plan: $100 million annually for development of the Internet platform

The Veon holding will annually aim at the development Internet platforms of $100 million in the next years, TASS with reference to the head of holding Jean-Yves Charlier reports in May, 2017.

According to him, these investments make a small share from investments of the company in a key segment of business. The Internet platform Veon is already started in Italy, start in Russia and Georgia is planned for the second quarter 2017.

Start of the Veon messenger

On February 27, 2017 Vimpelcom expressed the intention to start the Veon messenger in all countries of the presence. At the end of 2016 Veon was already started by Italian "subsidiary" of Vimpelcom.

Within implementation of digital-strategy Vimpelcom announced also partnership with a number of the international services. Besides, Vimpelcom announced partnership with the platform of mobile series Studio + (it is created by Vivendi corporation), musical services Deezer and i.am+. Partnership with i.am service + will include integration with the personal mobile assistant to AneedA.

2016

Purpose of start of service

Main goal of start of service – reduction of outflow of clients of Veon mobile operator (before Vimpelcom, works in Russia under the brand Beeline). The company, developing this product, was guided by experience of Turkcell operator whose BiP application won great popularity.

At the beginning of November, 2016 Turkcell reported in the quarterly statement that its BiP application wins popularity worldwide, including Europe and the USA: it was loaded more than 10 million times in 192 countries of the world. At the same time the number of loadings outside Turkey exceeded 1 million.

Start of similar services – a part of global digital strategy of Veon, wrote Reuters. As the head of the company Jean-Yves Charlier told at the end of 2016, the operator is going to earn not from sale of traditional telecommunication services, and from cooperation with the large Internet companies, such as Uber.

Possibilities of the messenger

Developers call Veon the "revolutionary" Internet platform. For launch in 2016 new service allows to exchange subscribers messages and photos, audio-and video calls. Besides, the platform will provide also other services, up to the help in management of personal finance. The company says that at the heart of work of the messenger there is an analysis algorithm of big databases and artificial intelligence.

The payment behind use of service is not levied, it works for subscribers even at a zero balance.
