2020: ICQ New start

On April 6, 2020 the company Mail.ru Group announced start AI- messenger which key functions are based on technologies artificial intelligence. Its basis became ICQ, the updated name of the messenger — ICQ New. Also in ICQ New the particular emphasis on functions for group communication is placed. In ICQ New it is possible to make group calls up to 30 people and also to create chats on tens of thousands of interlocutors. In addition to regeneration of internal systems, the service received the updated interface and visual style.

According to the company, in the messenger machine learning technologies are actively used: thanks to this ICQ New can adapt to the changing needs of users, make recommendations and prompt the necessary actions.

One of the ICQ New functions — the system of prompt replies Smart Reply created by means of artificial intelligence. The neuronet prompts to the user ready answers in the form of short phrases or stickers, proceeding from a dialog context. If the person types the message independently, the messenger will offer options of replacement of a word, a phrase or the emoji on an expressive sticker.

Besides, ICQ New is able to decrypt voice messages automatically. The speech recognition algorithms developed by experts of MRG Tech Lab allow to turn audio into the text.

When developing ICQ New the big emphasis was placed on voice and video conference. Versions for a desktop allow to share the image on the screen — for example, during the presentation or discussion of working questions.

In updated ICQ it is possible to create group chats on tens of thousands of interlocutors. Also the user or the company can start the channel to share in it relevant content. So, for example, operational staff on a coronavirus of 32 regions already conducts information channels in the messenger.

In ICQ New there is a platform for creation of bots: programmers will be able to automate the work or to participate in development of service, having added useful functions for other users. On the platform there are already several useful bots: for example, @WikipediaBot finds determinations for unknown words in the popular online encyclopedia, and @GiphyBot selects gif images for all occasions.

Individual preferences for those who pay to confidentiality and protection of personal information much attention are provided in the messenger. The user can prohibit to call it and to add it to groups. The phone number of the user is hidden from strangers even if they consist in one group. For additional protection it is possible to include in ICQ New the PIN code which needs to be entered when opening the application.

The visual ICQ New style was also completely changed. In an icon the flower metaphor is saved, however it became more minimalist. Also green color, brighter and juicy was selected. The well-known camomile lost a red lobe: time "offline" which it symbolized in modern messengers does not happen — people do not leave smartphones and constantly in touch.
