2020: Microsoft bought NPM

In mid-March 2020, Microsoft announced the acquisition of NPM to strengthen its position in the open source software community.

The financial and other terms of the transaction are not disclosed. Prior to its official announcement, NPM attracted a total of $8 million in investments.

The head GitHub Nat Friedman and the co-founder of NPM Isaac Schlueter tell in blogs that in the near future GitHub and NPM are waited by integration. This is expected to ultimately improve supply chains ON open source security.
