2021: Microsoft bought Peer5
In early August 2021, Microsoft announced the purchase of Peer5. The company did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
The main solution of Peer5 is Enterprise Content Delivery Networks (eCDN) (CDN Content Delivery Network (global market)), which allows organizations to transfer high-quality content to a large number of users. With this technology, Microsoft plans to improve video streaming on the Microsoft Teams service .
Peer5 provides customers with access to a WebRTC-based eCDN solution that works in a browser to optimize bandwidth utilization while mitigating impact on network and enterprise applications. Its mesh networks are self-balancing and automatically scale as the number of viewers increases. The technology does not require additional installation on user endpoints or changes to the physical network infrastructure. The Peer5 solution will enable Microsoft to provide an in-house offering that will help customers optimize their purchase process and customer support by improving their IT management experience.
To solve problems in the new world of hybrid work, companies rely more than ever on streaming data to interact with their employees, "said Nicole Herskovitz of Microsoft. - From company-wide training to global meetings and conferences, internal streaming plays a crucial role in interacting with employees.[1] |
