Sberbank's technology hub implements the principles and solutions of world Agile practices, when each employee can choose the most comfortable workplace for himself based on his tasks. According to representatives of the bank, this is possible thanks to the competent division of the space into zones for joint and individual work, communication and recreation.

There is also a space for holding mass events, which is equipped with a digital multimedia complex designed for the entire range of possible events. There will be hackathons, exhibitions and meetings.

In this new type of space, everyone can try and purchase Sber smart devices, as well as experience interacting with a smart home through futuristic techno performance.

During the reconstruction of ancient buildings, it was possible not only to preserve their historical part and introduce modern motives using high-tech materials, textures and colors, but also to bring the internal infrastructure of buildings to modern standards. The technohab uses Sberbank's own developments in the field of IoT and AI in order to predictively manage all engineering systems that increase the reliability, efficiency of facilities and comfort of employees, Sberbank emphasized.

Sberbank left SberCloud, CST and a number of other digital assets

As TAdviser found out, Sberbank's subsidiary Digital Assets LLC, which was the founder and co-founder of a number of companies related to the bank's digital business, withdrew from these assets in May. In particular, from the companies "Center for Speech Technologies" (CST), "Cloud Technologies" (operates on the market under the SberCloud brand), "Okko," "Evotor." In addition, Digital Assets LLC left the Sound company.

According to the database of legal entities Kontur.Fokus, "instead of Digital Assets LLC, the founder and co-founder of these companies was the New Opportunities JSC, created in May 2022. At the time of registration, its owner indicated an individual - Tatyana Portnykh.

Sberbank did not explain to TAdviser who it was, and why the assets were transferred to this company, as well as the motives for the bank's withdrawal from them.

As part of updating the strategy, Sberbank is reviewing its share participation in a number of assets. At the moment, Sberbank is not a shareholder of Okko, Sound, SberCloud, Evotor and the CST. The transaction was made on market terms. Sberbank will maintain partnerships with these companies and continue to implement joint marketing and operational activities, a representative of Sberbank told TAdviser.
File:Aquote2.png

The day after the publication of the news in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, information about the founders of the above companies, in particular, Okko, Sound, SberCloud, and the MDGs, ceased to be displayed. Extracts from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities indicate that access to this information is limited on the basis of No. 129-FZ "On state registration of legal entities and individual entrepreneurs."

A similar situation occurred with information about the founders of Sberbank and Sberbank-Service. Sberbank clarified that the bank did not leave Sberbank.

Sberbank became one of the Russian banks that fell under Western sanctions against the background of Russia's special operation in Ukraine. In this regard, its assets may also face difficulties, including those related to access to various technologies. So, for example, in April, Huawei and Apple removed the applications of banks that fell under sanctions. Restrictions may also apply to the supply of equipment. And SberCloud, which previously agreed on a strategic partnership with Huawei, is in critical need of them.

In turn, the Center for Speech Technologies works not only in Russia, but also in foreign markets, and communication with a sub-sanction organization would hardly play into his hands. In addition, there are risks of falling under secondary sanctions for counterparties working with companies with a sanctioned owner/co-owner.

Sberbank: We use the situation with the pandemic to become a "fully digital bank"

Sberbank is trying to use the situation due to the coronavirus pandemic to become a "fully digital bank," said Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank Alexander Morozov during a conference call with analysts and investors in early May to discuss the bank's results for Q1 2020.

This year, Sberbank has a detailed plan to optimize the cost structure of both OPEX and CAPEX, Morozov noted. At the same time, it is important for the bank not only to achieve a temporary reduction in costs, but to restructure processes and increase efficiency. In this perspective, the bank, for example, uses machine learning to reduce manual operations where possible.

Sberbank is also reviewing its needs for office space, taking into account positive experience, since during the coronavirus crisis and before it, the bank gets rid of all unnecessary bureaucracy and paper, stressed Alexander Morozov.

But even with a course on cost optimization, Sberbank invests even more than before in digitalization, follows from the words of the deputy chairman of the bank's board. The current crisis has again shown that digital transformation is a key component for long-term success, he stressed.

File:Aquote1.png
We are becoming more and more digital bank, providing more and more digital services for customers. And we have more and more customers who only use digital channels and products, including a wide range of products from our ecosystem. In the first quarter of 2020, our OPEX grew by 12.3% compared to the first quarter of 2019, and the driver of this growth was to a large extent the development of digital services in the main business of Sberbank, - said Alexander Morozov during a conference call.

Thus, SberMarket showed an increase in revenue by more than 6 times year-on-year, and the food delivery service Delivery Club increased revenue by more than 2 times year-on-year.

By March 17, 2020, the project is being tested in one of the correctional institutions in Novosibirsk. There, 20 candidates for participation in the pilot chose the local department of the FSIN, after which they were assessed by the relevant services of Sberbank.

Sberbank began to involve citizens sentenced to correctional labor in the implementation of document management tasks

When choosing a site, Sberbank was guided by the territorial location of the correctional centers of the FSIN, where convicts who are not associated with isolation from society (can freely move through the streets) undergo labor adaptation, as well as the Center for Corporate Solutions of the Sberbank territorial division.

According to  deputy chairman SberbankaAnatoliya Popov, often society and employers are not determined to accept an ex-prisoner.

File:Aquote1.png
For those who, as they say, "have embarked on the path of correction," it is very difficult to adapt to the changed conditions, to find themselves. We hope that our example will be positively perceived by other Russian business structures, will receive the support of society... We believe that they need to be given the opportunity to earn honest work, and not only physical, but more intellectual and promising, and receive a reward for this, "he said.
File:Aquote2.png

According to him, all the information with which the convicts will work is completely impersonal and does not contain either personal data, or banking or other secrets. In addition, they work on PCs that are not connected to the banking network. Internet They also do not have access to them. The salary of convicts will be charged in accordance with the minimum wage - in Novosibirsk it is 12,130 . rubles[2]

Non-financial digital business brought Sber 35 billion rubles

Non-financial digital business in 2019 brought Sberbank 35 billion rubles. The president of the credit institution German Gref told about this in a conversation with Kommersant.

File:Aquote1.png
If we remove aggressive growth plans, then almost all businesses included in the ecosystem are paid off, - said Gref, answering a journalist's question about the effectiveness of investing in the Sberbank ecosystem (since September 2020 it has been called Sberbank). - But since today they are at the stage of growth, then, of course, we almost invest in everything. Building an ecosystem is a living process, we make decisions on the start of new initiatives, some transform, reformat something. Sold the largest asset "Yandex-Market," received more than 40 billion rubles back. Taking this into account, about $2 billion was invested, less than 3% of our capital.

Non-financial digital business for the year brought Sber 35 billion rubles

According to the head of Sberbank, the company has both small projects with a million customers and developed ones - from 15-20 million. Most of the clients in the bank itself are only 110 million, 90 million of whom make at least one operation per month, he said.

In 2020, despite the crisis, the company plans to receive more than 70 billion rubles in non-financial business. The President of Sberbank also commented on the division of assets with Yandex. According to him, it does not matter on whose initiative this happened.

File:Aquote1.png
We compete with Yandex in a very large number of products. Where we do not compete, we continue to cooperate. When we started cooperation, there was no such competition. Yandex was a search engine, and we were a bank, "German Gref told the publication.

He also added that Sberbank deliberately does not buy other financial institutions, since it is confident in its ability to remain a strong company only if there are strong competitors in the market.[3]

Sberbank creates an ecosystem to compete with technology companies.
File:Aquote1.png
If we are re-regulated, or the Central Bank says: "Guys, this is the wrong concept, stay the bank...," - unfortunately,... after some number of years, they will have to deal with the regulation of high-tech giants in terms of banking, - said Gref.
File:Aquote2.png

He said that Sberbank is creating its ecosystem in order to preemptively hit IT giants that have already begun to engage in financial activities. Gref recalled that in 2018, almost all large Internet companies, including Google, Facebook and Amazon, received bank licenses.

File:Aquote1.png
In the ten-year term, they will come to our clearing and eat us. Therefore, we will arrange a feast for them on their territory, - promised the head of Sberbank, adding that the credit institution has already begun to create problems in the markets for traditional IT companies.
File:Aquote2.png

Gref made a statement after CENTRAL BANK RUSSIAN FEDERATION he released a report in which he paid attention to those created in large banks ecosystems. The regulator indicated that citizens are closed in the perimeter of these ecosystems, thereby replacing state institutions and monopolizing both the financial market and other industries. Sberbank is ready to buy shares in startups. Selection Accelerator Started

On September 6, 2018, Sberbank launched a startup program with a partner - 500 Startups. It is one of the best-known international venture capital funds, specialising in seed investments and is also one of Silicon Valley's most prestigious start-up accelerator.

As part of the joint program, until October 9, 2018, Sberbank and 500 Startups plan to select 25 startups that can be accelerated at Sberbank and receive up to 10 million rubles from it, said Lev Khasis, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank.

After that, until the end of January 2019, another selection will take place, according to the results of which 7 of the 25 previously selected teams will remain. These startups will be able to accelerate in the United States and get on a demo day with investors in the United States with promising funding.

Первый зампредседателя правления Сбербанка Лев Хасис (на фото справа) и вице-президент, руководитель дирекции развития цифрового бизнеса Сбербанка Mark Zavadsky talked about a new program for Russian startups

From a technological point of view, the priority in the selection for Sberbank is represented by companies developing products not only for the banking sector, but also in the field of e-commerce, digital retail, electronic health care and. formations This is also interesting for Sberbank clients, said Lev Khasis.

According to Hasis, subsequently Sberbank may receive a share in the most promising and interesting startups to the bank. The bank sees the most successful startups as important elements of its ecosystem both in the provision of interesting services to its clients and in the field of improving the efficiency of the bank's activities.

The first deputy chairman of Sberbank recalled that the bank sees itself as a "technology company with a bank license." To increasingly approach this vision, you need to learn the art of investing, he says. The bank also has a mission - to make people's lives better, and the accelerator, Hasis said, is a tool that allows people to get venture capital funding to realize their dreams.

Successful startups Sberbank and 500 Startups plan to help expand their markets and bring their products abroad. The representative of 500 Startups noted that there are many talents in Russia, and their accelerator is interested in developing cooperation with Russian innovative companies looking for financing abroad and the appearance of their products on the foreign market.

At the same time, Hasis emphasized, we are not talking about the leakage of Russian brains abroad. One of the requirements for startups wishing to participate in the acceleration program is their registration in the form of an LLC in Russia. It is about simply giving companies the opportunity to expand sales markets, the representative of Sberbank notes.

Speaking about the prerequisites for launching the program, Lev Khasis noted that large companies around the world, such as Google and Amazon, are acquiring startups, and their acquisitions are already in the hundreds. In Russia, this is still a new phenomenon, says Hasis, but large companies are starting to pay more and more attention to investment in startups.

File:Aquote1.png
We have long thought about how to streamline the work and bring the best world practices to the investment activities of Sberbank. There are many talents in Russia, but the innovation infrastructure, such as in other countries, has not yet been built here, and startups often have problems attracting investments, entering foreign markets with the product. Therefore, we thought that it would be good to attract a partner with experience. There are only a few such successful accelerators around the world as 500 Startups, "he explained.

Hasis added that part of the agreement with 500 Startups is to train Sberbank employees in venture financing in the field of innovation in order to strengthen internal expertise in this area.

Sberbank expects that subsequently other large corporations and state-owned companies interested in using startup technologies will join them. According to Lev Khasis, the bank has already held negotiations with potential partners. At the end of September, Sberbank plans to announce a program with them.

Plan to create your own virtual operator after a failed attempt to buy Yota

On September 7, 2016, it became known about Sberbank's plans to organize its own virtual mobile operator. This decision was made after allegedly unsuccessful negotiations with MegaFon on the purchase of the Yota operator.

The organization tried to negotiate with Tele2 and MTS. Anatoly Smorgonsky, ex-director of Yota confirmed the information about the events. Experts estimated "Yota (Scartel)" at 45 billion rubles[6]

Sberbank plans to launch its own virtual mobile operator
File:Aquote1.png
Telecom and data operators are already operating in the sector of some banking services, to a certain extent creating competition for banks. Of course, Sberbank could develop a number of mobile banking services based on Yota assets, for example, providing communication services on credit, SMS notification about the crediting of funds to cards, transferring money from a mobile phone account to a bank card. But there are doubts that the bank will be able to effectively manage non-core assets for itself.

Natalya Milchakova, Deputy Director of the Analytical Department of Alpari
File:Aquote2.png

The basic strategy of the project economy for Sberbank was calculated by Anatoly Smorgonsky, citing an informed source, the publication reported plusworld.ru. The essence of the offer: the bank has customers who use the cashback service (refund when paying for a purchase using a card). At the expense of cashback funds, the user can use free mobile communications with a certain package for a month, for example 500 MB of Internet traffic, 100 minutes of conversation and 50 SMS. If the package is used up within a month, then the payment for services will become fixed: a certain fee will be charged for each minute. At the same time, the emergence of a free mobile operator will have to stimulate Sberbank customers to switch to the use of cards and Internet banking applications.

2014: Opening of the Digital Business Development Unit under the leadership of V. Orlovsky

In 2014, Sberbank opened a digital business development unit. Victor Orlovsky, appointed senior vice president for digital business development at Sberbank, told TAdviser in March 2015 about plans in this area.

The main goal of the new division is to develop Sberbank's business in new areas based on new technologies. This involves investing in third-party development companies to gain access to their technology. Orlovsky told TAdviser that Sberbank has 11 such projects planned for 2015.

Everything that is done in this area is somehow connected with mobile devices and mobile payment for goods and services, with technologies for working with big data, biometric technologies and quick user identification, says Victor Orlovsky. At the same time, some of these projects are opened as new business areas of Sberbank, and some are commissioned by existing Sberbank divisions to solve a number of their problems.

The main part of Sberbank's digital business development projects is related to mobile devices

The first of 11 planned projects to develop a digital business was the acquisition of control in two companies developing products Platius and Segmento. The first is a system of loyalty and mobile payments. Its development is carried out by the company of the same name, founded by Iiko (created by Abbyy founder David Jan), as well as UCS. In turn, Segmento is an advertising platform developed by RuTarget.

Within the framework of the Platius project, Sberbank aims to create a national-scale mobile payment system that would become the standard for most retail businesses. The bank expects that by 2019 the number of users making payments using mobile devices in Russia will exceed 40 million people and aim to provide the Platius service for at least half of them.

"So
far this market is small, but we want to be on it early as we believe it will develop very much. Samsung will come here with its decision Samsung Pay and Apple with its Apple Pay, "says Sberbank's senior vice president of digital business development.

Sberbank chose not to disclose the portfolio of other projects, as well as the budget planned for them. Victor Orlovsky noted that many of these projects have R'n'D, so some of them start, but then close: "In the process of working on some projects, not all of our hypotheses and expectations are met," he says.

The task of the Directorate for the Development of Digital Business is to try the technology, quickly conduct an experiment to understand whether the technology is working or not, and then decide whether to invest in this project or not.

In addition to venture capital investment projects, Sberbank also has a number of other new projects for the development of e-business. Victor Orlovsky told TAdviser that one of them, for example, is the development of electronic trading platforms like MarketPlace. According to him, as of the beginning of 2015, Sberbank is experimenting on the creation of sites that could connect corporate clients of the bank with each other, as well as with retail clients.

Another area is the creation of a business tablet that allows micro-businesses and small businesses to accept bank card payments from mobile devices and issue checks to customers. In 2014, Sberbank tested a business tablet for 1000 of its customers, and in 2015 plans to launch the device on sale.

2010: The closure of the company "Sberbank" due to its loss-making

The decision to liquidate the company "Sberbank," established by the bank together with other shareholder companies, was made on August 20, 2010. This step was due to the unprofitability of this company. For more information, see "Savings Card."

In 2010, the bank concluded a number of strategically important contracts, carried out certification and assessment of working personnel, took additional measures to improve the quality of service to citizens, implemented socially significant and economic projects.
