2023: Building a Company

At the end of January 2023, it became known about the creation of Guru Electronics in the structure of AFK Sistema, which will supply consumer electronics and small household appliances. She has already issued declarations for the import into the EAEU of Apple phones and smartwatches, Dyson and Samsung equipment.

As specified to Kommersant in AFK Sistema, Guru Electronics was established for wholesale purchases of electronics and small household appliances for sale to retail chains and stores. The general director of Guru Electronics in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities lists the former commercial director of MTS retail Dmitry Magiyanov. The new structure has an authorized capital of 2 million rubles.

AFK Sistema has created a distributor of consumer electronics

As a source close to AFK Sistema told TASS, the company was created precisely under the auspices of the corporation, and not one of the group's companies, so that competitors, in particular MTS, could freely cooperate with Guru Electronics. However, the interlocutor of Kommersant believes that we are talking about strengthening the direction of parallel imports and that MTS needs goods for its own retail, since there is a demand for them and there is a shortage in the market from time to time.

The creation of a company separate from MTS that would import the equipment of manufacturers who left Russia could reduce the risks for the operator, said Fintech Lab analyst Sergei Vilyanov.

This is a typical practice - to create a large number of legal entities so that in case of possible risks they do not affect the main business, - he noted and added that payment from MTS mobile account by the end of January 2023 remains one of the few ways to make a purchase in Apple services, which gives the company a competitive advantage.

TelecomDaily CEO Denis Kuskov clarifies that the lack of direct supplies affected at least the assortment of Apple and Samsung products available in Russia. Companies are importing the most popular models, and, if you look at the amount of memory and power, not all options are on the market, he said.^[1]
