History

2023: KamAZ takes ownership of joint venture with Daimler

KamAZ became the sole owner of a joint venture with Daimler. This became known in mid-January 2023.

The fact that KamAZ consolidated 100% of the shares of DK Rus LLC (manages the assembly and distribution of medium-tonnage trucks Compass"" and the cab frame plant in Naberezhnye Chelny) was reported by Interfax"" with reference to the data of the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (USRUL).

Since 2023, KamAZ has been the sole owner of the joint venture with Daimler

It is noted that the joint venture came under the full control of KamAZ on January 13, 2023. Before that, it was renamed Trax Vostok Rus LLC.

Renaming to Trax Vostok Rus does not affect relations with customers, suppliers and partners of the distributor of medium-tonnage trucks Compass, the press service of the joint venture noted (quoted by the press service of Kommersant).

Before the start of the special operation RUSSIAN FEDERATION To Ukraine , DK Rus imported trucks and special equipment, Mercedes-Benz as well as Fuso medium-tonnages, which were assembled in a large-knot way at a plant in Naberezhnye Chelny. Production began with the Compass-9 (gross weight up to 9.5 tons) and Compass-12 (up to 12 tons) models. It was planned to expand the line with the Compass-3 (up to 3.5 tons) and Compass-5 (up to 6 tons) models, increasing localization.

Although Daimler left the joint venture with the Russian automaker, the company continues to own 15% of KamAZ itself. According to the general director of KamAZ Sergei Kogogin, the German automaker refused to participate in its management and became a "sleeping shareholder."

By January 2023, American blocking sanctions against the Russian automaker and its subsidiaries are in effect against KamAZ. According to experts, restrictions can make it difficult for KamAZ to access imported spare parts even from China, as well as the export process. Chinese companies are extremely cautious about creating a joint venture with sanctions officials due to the threat of secondary sanctions.[1]
