2021: Cisco Bought Sedona Systems

On May 11, 2021, Cisco announced the acquisition of Sedona Systems, but did not name the value of the transaction. The Israeli business publication Calcalist writes that the buyer paid about $100 million for a startup.

Cisco is confident that the takeover of Sedona will help customers from the telecommunications industry. Carriers typically have very complex networks that cover large geographic areas and include several types of equipment, including optical. The complexity of operator networks and the need to quickly handle growing traffic objects make it difficult to troubleshoot technical problems.

Cisco acquired Sedona Systems

Cisco sees buying Sedona as a step towards solving this problem. After closing the deal, telecom customers will be able to "quickly move from clumsy manual operations between disparate teams and technologies to a fully automated and reliable network that is easy to manage through a single panel," wrote Kevin Wollenweber, vice president of network products for telecom operators, on the Cisco blog.

Updating operations is vital to reduce the current costs of operating large-scale networks. Usually, their operation annually costs about $5 for each $1 spent on equipment. This must change, "he said.[1]
