2024: Project Launch

At the end of November 2024, it became known that Yandex launched the Yandex Electro project for the development of electric transport, charging infrastructure and energy storage systems. In particular, we are talking about the development and production of cheaper, more reliable, convenient and practical light commercial vehicles.

The project website says that Yandex Electro is a new team that is engaged in the creation, production, assembly, installation and maintenance of electric vehicles. Bicycles, scooters and mopeds are mentioned, as well as light and freight transport.

Yandex Electro

As of December 2, 2024, 26 vacancies were opened at the Yandex Electro site. Among them are the leading designer of light commercial electric vehicles, the head of the charging infrastructure, design engineers, an engineer for battery management systems (BMS), a specialist in thermal calculations, circuitry, materials scientist, reliability and safety engineer, battery technology engineer, etc.

We come up with and control the entire chain, from the basic concept and diagrams of power plants, to battery software, component assembly and maintenance of recharging stations. We create solutions both for ordinary users and for corporate clients and other organizations, - noted on the Yandex Electro page.

Yandex intends to develop a charging infrastructure for all types of electric transport. It is said that the insufficient density of high-quality and fast charging stations is one of the fundamental obstacles to the development and penetration of electric transport. The company plans to develop materials for battery systems, including independently. The batteries themselves will be manufactured using lithium-ion technology and other promising methods.^[1]
