2024: Discovery
The second crushing and conveyor complex (DKK) with a capacity of 35 million tons of ore per year was opened at the quarry of the Mikhailovsky GOK named after A.V. Varichev in the Kursk region. The volume of investments in the project exceeded ₽10 billion. This became known in December 2024.
According to TASS, the Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Anton Alikhanov launched the operation of the complex in video conferencing mode. He stressed that the new production will reduce the cost of production by using energy efficient technologies and a new type of transport.
The second complex has a more gentle trajectory with an angle of inclination of conveyors from 4 to 13 degrees and a total length of 2.4 km. It includes a crushing and reloading plant, three reloading units, conveyor racks, four belt conveyors and a loading and storage complex.
Acting Governor of the Kursk Region Alexander Khinshtein announced his readiness to provide full support to Metalloinvest and Mikhailovsky GOK. The construction of the DKK has become one of the largest investment projects of the company in recent years.
The first steeply inclined crushing and conveyor complex on the southeast side of the quarry began operation in 2020. Its 700-meter conveyor lifts the ore to a height of 215 meters at an angle of 37 degrees. 35.5 thousand cubic meters of concrete and about 2.4 thousand tons of metal structures were used for the construction.
The Mikhailovskoye deposit, discovered in 1950 near the city of Zheleznogorsk, is one of the largest iron ore deposits in the world and part of the Kursk magnetic anomaly. The development is carried out in an open way, the first iron ore concentrate was obtained in October 1973.
The new complex includes 40 facilities, including a crushing and reloading plant, conveyors of various types and engineering facilities, which will significantly increase the efficiency of ore mining and processing.[1]
