Bus production in Russia soared by 40%, to 36,946 buses

In 2023, 36,946 buses were produced in Russia. For comparison, a year earlier, the output was 26,378 units. Thus, an increase of 40.1% was recorded. Such a significant increase is due to state support measures aimed at modernizing and updating the public transport fleet in the regions and providing orders to Russian manufacturers. This is stated in the review of BusinesStat, published in early October 2024.

The study takes into account buses with diesel, semi-diesel, gasoline and other engines. Among the significant players in the industry are ST Nizhegorodets LLC, AZ RariTEK LLC, PKF Luidor LLC, Volgabas Volzhsky LLC, BMG LLC and others.

It is estimated that 39,577 buses were produced in Russia in 2019. In 2020, there was a 12.1% reduction to 34,791 units. The COVID-19 pandemic and coronavirus restrictions have complicated the market situation, significantly reducing demand for new cars. Some manufacturers were forced to either suspend production or significantly reduce capacity utilization. In 2021, the industry returned to growth: the increase was 5.8% with a final result of 36,799 buses produced. But in 2022, due to the worsening geopolitical situation, there was a fall of 28.3%.

The review notes that as of 2023, up to 79% of the bus fleet in Russia is used outside the regulatory life. This corresponds to about 270 thousand units of equipment. The share of cars aged 10 and over in Russia exceeded 70%

In August 2024, it became known that the share of cars aged 10 years and older in Russia exceeded 70% of the country's total fleet. This is evidenced by the data of the analytical agency "Avtostat," obtained during the preparation of the report "Vehicle Park in the Russian Federation for 01.07.2024."

According to the study, as of July 1, 2024, there were 40 million vehicles in Russia (including cars and light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses) aged 10 years and older. This represents 72.8% of the total number of registered vehicles in the country. Accordingly, the share of cars under 10 years of age is 27.2% or 15 million units.

In the bus segment, which is the smallest, the share of cars over 10 years old is 67.3% (250.4 thousand out of 372.2 thousand units). In the segment of passenger cars, the situation is somewhat better: the share of cars over 10 years old is 72.2%. However, in absolute numbers, this is the largest number - 33.8 million out of 46.8 million registered cars. The most difficult situation is observed in the segment of trucks, where the share of equipment over 10 years old reaches 77.5% (2.84 million out of 3.66 million registered trucks).

Experts note negative dynamics in updating the fleet. According to the founder of the project "Automarketologist" Oleg Moseev, the number of cars aged 1-3 years under the warranty of manufacturers has halved since 2021 - from 4.2 to 2.2 million units.

Vice-President of the National Automobile Union Anton Shaparin predicts a further deterioration in the situation. He attributes this to the planned indexation of the recycling fee in October, which will lead to higher prices for new cars.

State purchases of Russian cars have grown several times

State purchases of Russian cars are on the rise

Cars from other Russian manufacturers turned out to be less popular among public procurement. For example, Haval, whose cars are produced at a plant in the Tula region, received 271 tenders for ₽1,2 billion, which is a quarter more compared to the same period in 2023. Purchases of Moskvich cars increased 5 times to ₽449 million, and Sollers products attracted ₽198 million, which is 1.5 times higher than in 2023. Kaliningrad Avtotor showed an increase of 46%, reaching a public procurement volume of ₽23 million.

The average price of a contract for the supply of vehicles for 44-FZ and 223-FZ in the first half of 2024 increased by 3% to ₽7,2 million. At the same time, purchases of cars of foreign brands demonstrated multidirectional dynamics. The Russian market for tow truck services grew by 11.7% over the year, to ₽11,8 billion

The volume of the Russian market for vehicle evacuation services reached ₽11,8 billion in 2023, showing an increase of 11.7% compared to 2022. The study data was published on October 31, 2024.

According to the agency for marketing research and business plans "GuideMarket," in real terms, taking into account inflation, market growth amounted to 4.4%. After falling to ₽10,5 billion in 2022, the industry is showing signs of recovery, although it did not reach its 2019 peak of ₽13,1 billion.

The market development was facilitated by an increase in demand for cargo evacuation services. In transport the context of a shortage of spare parts, truck owners began to use tow trucks more often to deliver goods in case of tractor breakdowns on the way.

The market has experienced several significant downturns over the past five years. In 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the volume decreased by 22.1% to ₽10,5 billion. In 2021, an increase of 14.8% to ₽12,1 billion followed, but in 2022, sanctions pressure led to a new fall of 12.8%.

According to the agency for market research and business plans, the industry is adapting to new working conditions, developing specialized services. The growing popularity of electric vehicles is driving demand for evacuations, taking into account the specifics of their service and safety requirements.

Companies are introducing state-of-the-art technologies to improve operational efficiency and service quality. Particular attention is paid to the development of mobile applications for calling a tow truck and tracking its location in real time.

Despite the recovery, current market performance remains 9.9% below pre-crisis levels in 2019, indicating significant potential for further industry growth.[5]

The number of premium cars in Russia for the year increased by 25% and reached 24.2 thousand units

In 2023, the number of luxury cars in Russia increased by 25%, reaching 24.2 thousand units. This was announced at the end of October 2024 by the analytical service FinExpertiza, based on data from the Federal Tax Service (FTS).

According to the FinExpertiza study, the total increase was 4.4 thousand cars, which reflects the significant interest of citizens in premium cars. The largest number of premium cars is registered in Moscow - 9767 cars, which is 40.4% of the total number in the country. They are followed by St. Petersburg with 2139 elite cars and the Moscow region with 1898 cars. Large indicators are also demonstrated by the Krasnodar Territory (1083 cars), the Sverdlovsk Region (690 cars) and Tatarstan (565 cars).

At the same time, in sparsely populated regions, the number of premium cars remains extremely low. In the Nenets and Chukotka Autonomous Okrugs, only three elite cars were registered, in the Jewish Autonomous Region - four cars, and in Tuva - five cars. Also, modest indicators were recorded in Komi and the Pskov region - 20 cars each, and in Yakutia, Mordovia and Sevastopol - 22 elite cars each.

FinExpertiza President Elena Trubnikova noted that the increase in premium cars is due to several factors, including rising prices for cars and a gradual renewal of the assortment in the car market. In addition, improving the financial situation of citizens also contributes to an increase in demand for upper-class cars. She added that the government list of luxury cars for 2023 includes models that duplicate the 2022 list by three quarters, with about 7% of the cars coming from the mass segment, mainly German production.[6]

Fire engines up 5% to 1,414

In 2023, 1,414 fire engines were sold in Russia. The growth compared to the previous year, when the volume of sales was estimated at 1347 units, was about 5%. Data on the Russian market are given in the BusinesStat report, which was presented on March 25, 2024.

According to the published statistics, in 2019, sales of fire engines in the Russian Federation amounted to 952 units, and the growth compared to the previous year was at around 10%. So, in 2021, the volume of sales increased by 11.8% - to 989 cars, and in 2022 the increase was recorded at 36.2%.

The study notes that the main customers of fire engines are the fire services of the Russian regions. At the same time, equipment is purchased mainly of domestic production. In 2023, vehicles were supplied to the services of the Chelyabinsk Region, the Komi Republic, the Leningrad Region, the cities of Vladimir, Ulan-Ude, etc. At the same time, Belarusian-made cars are supplied to the cities of Primorsky Krai, which is associated with their technological features. The tank and other elements of this technique are made of anticorrosive material, due to which seawater can be used.

Another factor in the growth of sales of fire engines in 2021-2023 was the purchase of state-owned enterprises. In particular, in 2023, specialized equipment was ordered by the Vostochny cosmodrome, companies in the aircraft industry, oil production and other industries. Uralspetstrans, Priority, Unimod, TorTechMash and Vitand Company are named among the key manufacturers of fire engines. In general, according to the analysis of BusinesStat, in 2019-2023, sales of fire engines in Russia rose by about 48.5%.[7]

Chinese car sales share rises to 51%

St. Petersburg and the Rostov Region (212 thousand and 172.3 thousand pieces) also fall into the TOP-5 here. Only these subjects of the Russian Federation managed to overcome the shared barrier of 3%. The largest growth of the secondary market among the regions was recorded in Tuva (+ 40%). Kia Rio and Hyundai Solaris models in 2023 were sold in the amount of 110,519 and 110,008 cars, respectively. Toyota Corolla (102,445 units) also entered the top five of the secondary market. All leaders of the model rating in 2023 are showing market growth. It was strongest in Toyota Corolla (plus 21.6%), and weak in the Lada 2170 Priora sedan (plus 0.9%).

According to the portal "Авто.ру Assessment," the average cost of a new car in Russia in 2023 increased by 17.3%, to 3.7 million rubles, and used - by 28%, to 2.2 million rubles.[11]

Named the top 10 best-selling cars in Russia for the year

More than half of all new passenger cars sold in the Russian Federation in 2023 fell on three brands. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in January - December 2023, 1,319,351 new cars (up to three years) were sold in the Russian Federation, which is 60% more than in the same period last year (823,695 units). Half in this volume are cars of domestic production.

In the second half of 2023, the weighted average price of a passenger car in Russia for the first time exceeded 3 million rubles. The key factor in the growth of the segment of cars with automatic transmission is called the fact that the lion's share of sales of new cars in Russia falls on large cities, where the road situation naturally contributes to an increase in demand for automatic transmission.[24]

1.759 million new cars sold (-2.3%)

At the end of 2019, 1.759 million new cars were sold in Russia, which is 2.3% less than a year earlier, follows from the data of the Association of European Businesses (AEB). 2016: January car sales fall to lowest since 2010

In mid-May 2012, VTsIOM conducted a survey according to which every fifth Russian plans to purchase a car, and in most cases a foreign car. 46 percent of those surveyed plan to buy a car on credit.
