Cornerstone Technology — the Dutch supplier of software and consulting services for updating of applications for mainframes. The company offers the software tool under name G4 allowing to adapt old workloads for start in the new environment, using rules which were manually set by developers. The solution gives an opportunity of breakdown of the application on modules and their subsequent premises in program containers. Also it is applied to data transfer.

History

2020: Google purchased Cornerstone Technology

On February 19, 2020 Google announced Cornerstone Technology acquisition, but did not begin to set the price of the transaction. The buyer intends to use startup tools to help clients to transfer the applications from mainframes to cloud infrastructure of Google Cloud.

It is noted that tools which can automate migration of applications play a large role in cloud projects because of complexity of the corporate software. But they are especially important, so far as concerns programs for mainframes as they are often written in outdated languages, such as Cobol which were created before emergence of public cloud services.

For decades of the company relied on architecture of mainframes for accomplishment of crucial workloads. But it often limits developers from use of advantages of new technologies which would allow to implement innovations quicker. Cloud computing gives the chance to upgrade applications and infrastructure, improving distribution and use of resources, says Google, Cornerstone devoted to absorption.

Add to Google that the Cornerstone tools allow to break the programs written on Cobol, PL/1 or Assembler on services and to do them cloud.

On the website Cornerstone about 30 large customers of the company among whom — Capgemini and Deutsche Postbank are mentioned.[1]
