History

2019: Opening

At the end of October, 2019 IBM began to employ the first graduates of high school with training in the P-TECH model which the company opened in 2011 in Brooklyn. The training program offers all pupils an opportunity to gain the diploma of high school and degree of the junior specialist within six years and also an opportunity in the subsequent to get a job in the company.

Within the six-year program pupils attend classes, traditional for high school, but in addition undergo in-plant training, intensively study natural-science disciplines, attend classes in technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and also rates which are usually taught already in college. Though many high schools of the USA offer difficult programs for entrance in the college, P-TECH is selected with the fact that his pupils actually study practically in one class with students. Pupils of P-TECH are issued not only with the diploma about secondary education, but also with degree of the junior specialist and also with real experience.

The P-TECH model demands thoughtful approach both from pupils, and from teachers, however at successful combination of circumstances more than pays back the enclosed efforts as ensures to pupils demanded functioning regardless of entrance in the college. The P-TECH program is one of the few projects approved by Obama which with pleasure was supported also by Donald Trump. As school districts finance this program, pupils can get such education absolutely free of charge. P-TECH are completely public schools and submit to normal standards though pupils also get additional benefits which can usually be found only in private schools.

IBM is happy with results of the pilot program and established partnership with more than 600 companies (such as American Airlines and Volkswagen) to open P-TECH schools not only in the USA, but also in other countries. By the end of 2019 it is going to open 220 P-TECH schools.[1]
