Now the Cloudant service works at the IBM SoftLayer platform, and, purchasing the company, IBM increases the investments into cloud infrastructure of SoftLayer. Being the global service available in 140 countries, SoftLayer provides to clients a simple opportunity to quickly unroll mobile functionality with the characteristics of security, confidentiality and reliability inherent in private clouds and also profitability, flexibility and performance as at public clouds.

Completion of the transaction on acquisition of Cloudant is expected in the I quarter of 2014. The company will join the division of Information and Analytics Group which is recently formed in IBM headed by the senior vice president Bob Pizziano and being a part of IBM Software & Systems Group.
IBM also announced investment of 1 bln. dollars into development of own platform - as - service (PaaS) which will open access to software of an interface layer of IBM in a cloud.
