During the IBM Pulse 2014 conference the IBM corporation (February, 2014) announced the conclusion of the final agreement with this private company whose service allows developers easily and to create quickly mobile and web applications of the next generation. Financial terms of transaction are not disclosed.

Cloudant will add offers of IBM in the field of Big Data and analytics, cloud computing and mobile technologies and will help her clients to take additional benefits from these key initiatives. Cloudant technologies are already used by the enterprises of different fields of activity, including the game industry, the financial sector, mobile devices, on-line training, retail and medical care.

Cloudant enters to the contribution to work of the community developing the open Apache CouchDB database. It provides high data availability, good scalability and the innovation functions of synchronization of mobile devices. The cloud service of JSON of Cloudant company allows developers mobile and web applications it is easy to save, and then to get access to the growing volume of mobile data. The NoSQL databases enjoy at them the increasing popularity owing to the flexibility, and JSON became for them the preferable choice.

Cloudant expands available for an IBM portfolio of tools for Big Data and analytics out of limits of traditional data management. Its database as service allows clients to simplify and accelerate creation attractive and well scalable mobile and web applications. Besides, as claim in IBM, its development becomes an integral part of the solutions IBM MobileFirst. It will allow the developers using for mobile application development of software of IBM Worklight to accelerate creation of the flexible, scalable applications capable to work with the structured and unstructured data.

The Cloudant technology implemented in the form of the managed cloud service saves application developers from need to become experts in management of databases, and database managers (DBA) can be focused on more responsible tasks, than daily routine administration.

Acquisition of Cloudant will allow IBM to strengthen the cloud solutions, having provided developers with tools and resources for creation, testing, deployment and scaling of cloud applicaions in different hosting layers. Now the Cloudant service works at the IBM SoftLayer platform, and, purchasing the company, IBM increases the investments into cloud infrastructure of SoftLayer. Being the global service available in 140 countries, SoftLayer provides to clients a simple opportunity to quickly unroll mobile functionality with the characteristics of security, confidentiality and reliability inherent in private clouds and also profitability, flexibility and performance as at public clouds.

DBaaS of Cloudant company uses availability, elasticity and richness of opportunities for creation of a global network of delivery of data inherent in clouds thanks to which the scalability of applications and their availability to users where they were improve.

Completion of the transaction on acquisition of Cloudant is expected in the I quarter of 2014. The company will join the division of Information and Analytics Group which is recently formed in IBM headed by the senior vice president Bob Pizziano and being a part of IBM Software & Systems Group.

IBM also announced investment of 1 bln. dollars into development of own platform - as - service (PaaS) which will open access to software of an interface layer of IBM in a cloud.
