2021: HP Inc. bought HyperX for $425 million

On February 24, 2021, HP Inc. announced the acquisition of HyperX for $425 million. The buyer intends to pay the transaction in full by its own means (without transferring its shares) and close it in the second quarter of 2021. This deal must first be approved by regulators.

HyperX sells Kingston Technology, which reserves the right to sell RAM modules and drives under the brand name HyperX. HP Inc., in turn, will use this brand to sell gaming peripherals - in a market in which the American company already operates, offering products under the Omen brand.

In a conversation with Barron's, HP Personal Systems division president Alex Cho explained that HyperX is especially strong in the field of gaming headsets. HP Inc. was not previously present in this segment. He noted that HP Inc. "s activities in the peripherals market mainly include sales of keyboards, mice and monitors, but the company sees peripherals as an" important growth engine. "

Cho added that the purchase of HyperX allows HP Inc. to move from the market for "additional devices" - standard peripherals used with desktops and laptops - to more practical solutions for "premium capabilities." As stated in HP Inc., computer games on PCs remain one of the most popular types of video games, and the equipment market for them will reach $70 billion by 2023.

At the time of the announcement of the deal, it is unclear what HP Inc. intends to do with console gaming products. HyperX The manufacturer offers various headsets and charging accessories for PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo consoles, as well as microSD memory cards designed for Switch owners.[1]
