2021: Creation of a chip development center for €1 billion in Germany
In mid-March 2021, Apple announced the expansion of business in Germany. In particular, the company will invest €1 billion in the creation of a new engineering and design center in Munich, which will add hundreds of new jobs. The European Silicon Design Center will be located on an area of 30 thousand m ² and will focus on the development of technologies and products (primarily semiconductor) for 5G networks. The investment plan is designed for three years.
The company noted that Munich is already Apple's largest engineering center in Europe. It already employs about 4,000 employees and 1,500 engineers from more than 40 countries who develop power management systems, processors and wireless technologies. Germany is also an integral part of the company's supply chain. Within five years of Apple invested over €15 billion in more than 700 local companies, including producer of automobile chips Infineon and the producer of accumulators for AirPods Varta.
Now Apple plans to invest €1 billion in the construction of a new center, which will be located on Karlstrasse Street in the center of Munich. The center will operate on renewable energy sources and will become the largest center in Europe for research and development of wireless solutions and software for mobile devices. He will be able to accept employees at the end of 2022 and will receive a LEED Gold certificate from the first day.
A team of engineers in Munich is waiting for incredible discoveries - from expanding the current 5G borders to next-generation technologies that will bring power, speed and new communication capabilities to the world. Munich has been home to Apple for four decades, and we are grateful to our employees and Germany for deciding to go this way with us, "said Apple CEO Tim Cook[1] |
