Company history

1999: Founding of the company in St. Petersburg

The company was founded in February 1999 in St. Petersburg by Mikhail Zakhryapin and Alexei Elagin for the purpose of producing software to ensure the safety of end users. The first products, Jammer and Tauscan, specialized in detecting and blocking hacker attacks.

Subsequently, the first version of Outpost Personal Firewall was created from the Jammer source code. In March 2002, a free version and a version of "Pro" were simultaneously released. Soon after, Agnitum began entering into agreements with partners in major European markets such as Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, France and Poland.

2004

Since 2004, Agnitum has launched activities in the markets of Russia and the CIS countries, offering Russian-speaking users Tauscan and Outpost Firewall Pro products in their native language.

2005

In 2005, the company built Firewall an anti-spyware component into Outpost Pro 3.0, ON and also released the first network protection product, Outpost Office Firewall, thus adding network support and centralized control to Outpost Firewall Pro technology. 2006

2007

In the spring of 2007, the company noted the release of two new products at once - the free spam filter Spam Terrier and the first version of the comprehensive PC protection solution when working on the Internet Outpost Security Suite Pro 2007.

In October 2007, after 2 years of development, Agnitum released the fully Vista and 64-bit Windows Outpost Firewall Pro 6.0 firewall and the complete Internet security antivirus solution Outpost Security Suite Pro PCs with a new architecture and improved auto-configuration and protection mode, which entered the market under the name Outpost 2008.

Since November 2007, Agnitum products have consistently received awards in the Matousec.com portal anti-leak Firewall Challenge tests (the "Excellent" award for Outpost Firewall Pro - starting with version 6.0) and awards based on regular antivirus testing of the Virus Bulletin online magazine (5 awards VB100 from Outpost Security Suite Pro).

2008

In the spring of 2008, the company noted the release of another product of the Outpost 2008 line - a separate antivirus solution Outpost Antivirus Pro, which since the winter of 2009 has been supplied on the principle of "software as a service" under the Outpost AV Service brand.

In mid-2008, the company updated its Outpost line of personal products to version 2009 (technical index 6.5).

2009: International Expansion Starts

In 2009, new versions of Outpost Network Security 3.0 solutions were released (in the form of an antivirus system for centralized PC protection in organizations' networks), as well as Outpost AV Service based on the comprehensive Outpost Security Suite Pro 2009.

Since mid-2009, Agnitum has been entering new markets in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia, preparing for the release of the next version (7.0) compatible with Windows 7 by the end of the year.

2010: Stop Outpost Firewall Pro Updates

On October 1, 2010, it announced the termination of updates and technical support for all versions of Outpost Firewall Pro, Outpost Antivirus Pro and Outpost Security Suite Pro except version 7.0.

For all versions of Outpost Pro that were released before May 2010, updates will be disabled, including updates to virus and spyware signature databases, ad blocking rules, site blacklist, firewall rules, and Local Security. All listed services, rules and databases will be updated only in Outpost Pro 7.

2015: Yandex receives Agnitum technologies and employees

The Yandex search engine announced in December 2015 the "purchase of technologies" of the St. Petersburg antivirus developer Agnitum. As representatives of the Yandex press service emphasize, the deal is not a purchase of Agnitum itself. However, as a result of its implementation, Yandex will receive, in addition to technologies in the field of information security and Agnitum employees, who, led by the company's leaders, received an offer to go to work in a search engine. The transition to Yandex of the key employees of Agnitum is part of the already signed deal. The founders of Agnitum, according to Yandex representatives, will also be included in the search engine staff. They "will help adapt the team for the new team and integrate technology into the company's browser."

All employees who have switched to the search engine will work on the security mechanisms of Yandex.Browser.
