Company

Owners

Joint-Stock Company "Scientific Research Institute" Polyus "named after M.F. Stelmakh" was founded in 1962. The company is engaged in the development and production of solid-state lasers, semiconductor lasers of various types, receiving and transmitting modules for fiber-optic transmission, laser gyroscopes, laser medical and technological equipment, elements of laser systems.

History

2023: Launch of the direction for the development of radiophotonics

Rostec will develop radio photonics in Russia. The technological direction will be developed on the basis of the Polyus Research Institute named after M.F. Stelmakh holding "Schwabe," representatives of Rostec reported on December 22, 2023.

The Research Institute was one of the first in Russia to create complex laser information systems. By the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Institute was determined by the basic organization of the defense industry, which carries out scientific activities to develop radiophotonics technologies.

The formation of a new scientific direction on the basis of the Polyus Research Institute will allow conducting large-scale research and using the latest developments to create radiophoton systems in wireless and satellite networks, laser rangefinders, antennas at airfields, radars and gyroscopes. Further development of radiophotonics will enable the telecommunications industry to switch to the transmission of ultra-large amounts of information at ultra-high speeds exceeding the existing values as of 2023.

The Director General of the Polyus Research Institute, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Evgeny Kuznetsov has been appointed the head of the priority technological direction. The institute headed by him has repeatedly confirmed its competencies in the field of radiophotonics.

So, in 2019, the Polyus Research Institute developed a powerful single-frequency 1550-nm ROS laser and established its mass production. Such lasers are actively used in systems for transmitting and processing large amounts of data, in high-speed communication systems.

"The development of domestic radiophotonics is one of the conditions for the technological sovereignty of our country. Devices based on radio photonics technologies will differ from their existing counterparts in speed, accuracy, high noise immunity and a number of other advantages. We plan to involve our partners - scientists in the field of laser technologies, designers, engineers and other specialists of Rostec enterprises, "said Vadim Kalyugin, General Director of Schwabe, member of the Bureau of the Union of Machine Builders of Russia.

As of December 2023, researchers at the Polyus Research Institute, together with colleagues from the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, are developing modulators based on heterostructures based on an indium phosphide substrate. This semiconductor material, operating in the range of 1500-1600 nm, can be used to create photonic integrated circuits used in fiber optic communication and telecommunications systems.

2021: Start of oil production equipment project with PetroEngineering

The Polyus Research Institute named after M. F. Stelmakh, which is part of the Shvabe holding of Rostec State Corporation, and PetroEngineering, a company specializing in the provision of services in the field of oil and gas drilling, announced on June 23, 2021 that they are starting to implement a large project for the production of equipment for oil production.

The parties plan to jointly develop and produce modern drilling equipment, including PDC (Polycrystalline Diamond Bits) bits, a professional tool made using innovative technology for drilling oil, gas or geothermal wells.

The cooperation agreement was signed by the general director of the Polyus Research Institute Evgeny Kuznetsov and the general director of ISK PetroEngineering Alexander Gerasimenko.

Polyus Research Institute already has experience in creating specialized equipment for the underwater oil and gas production industry - in October 2020, we launched mass production of a fiber-optic system for transmitting and converting optical signals, which allows managing the underwater production infrastructure on the shelf. ISK PetroEngineering is one of the largest Russian oilfield service companies that has been developing and producing its own drilling equipment since 2015. Combining our competencies will be the key to effective cooperation and will significantly increase the production potential of both parties, "Yevgeny Kuznetsov is convinced.

"I am sure that the signing of an agreement with the Polyus Research Institute will give impetus to the development of production of domestic drilling equipment, which can compete with foreign counterparts. Thee is more that in a pandemic, the problem of import substitution has become the most acute. The synergy of the scientific base of the Polyus Research Institute and our experience in the field of technologies for drilling oil and gas wells will allow us to bring the production of equipment in the industry strategic for Russia to the world level, "Alexander Gerasimenko emphasized.

ISK PetroEngineering has already developed more than 400 PE (Petro Engineering) bit designs under the Petro Bits brand, taking into account modifications for the main Russian oil and gas production regions. As of June 2021, the company's specialists have already drilled more than 5 thousand wells throughout the country with a total penetration of about 14 thousand kilometers.

2020

As of June 2020, the Polyus Research Institute named after M. F. Stelmakh is part of the Schwabe holding of the Rostec State Corporation.

2016: Assigning Technopark status

On August 25, 2016, by order of the Moscow Government, it received the status of "Technopark."

2011

As of 2011, in the system of the electronic industry and the defense complex of Russia, the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Polyus named after F.M. Stelmakh is one of the leading scientific institutes in the field of laser technology and develops one of the most promising areas of modern science - laser information systems.

2001: Assignment of M.F. Stelmach's name

Since 2001, the Polyus Research Institute has been named after the founder and first director Mitrofan Fedorovich Stelmakh (1918-1993), a famous military radio engineer, general, doctor of technical sciences, laureate of the USSR State Prize.
