NPP Istok supports about 30% of the total range of microwave electronics products manufactured in Russia, which determines its leading role in the industry. The enterprise has closed technological cycles of development and production of microwave transistors, monolithic integrated circuits, microwave modules of any functional complexity, electric vacuum microwave devices and integrated microwave devices based on them, radioelectronic equipment and its components.

History

2025: Plans to build Russia's largest crystal plant for power electronics

Shokin microwave electronics manufacturer Istok plans to organize the country's largest production of crystals for power electronics with a capacity of 24 thousand plates annually by 2030. The project was called "Factory" and will be located in Fryazino. This was announced in October 2025 by the Deputy General Director of the enterprise Sergey Shcherbakov.

According to CNews, the monthly production capacity will be 1,000 gallium arsenide (GaAs) plates and 1,000 gallium nitride (GaN) plates. The crystals are designed for microwave transistors and monolithic integrated circuits of microwave. The diameter of the plates with which the enterprise will work will be 150 mm.

"Source" named after Shokin will build the largest plant in Russia for the production of crystals for power electronics

For gallium arsenide, topological norms of 0.5 mcm, 0.25 mcm, 0.2 mcm and 0.1 mcm are established. For gallium nitride - 0.25 μm, 0.1 μm, 0.06 μm and 0.04 μm. The company is part of the state corporation "Rostec."

The Factory project will include several key elements of the production chain. The complex will include a microwave product design center. It is planned to create a factory for the production of substrates with a line for the production of substrates from gallium arsenide and silicon carbide.

The production structure also includes a high-resistance silicon substrate production line. The main element will be the crystal factory, consisting of the production line GaAs and GaN.

To train personnel, the company will cooperate with RTU MIEA, NIU MIET, MISIS and other higher educational institutions. Basic training of specialists will provide qualified personnel with new production.

According to Sergey Shcherbakov, Russian crystal production provides the production of microwave devices based on gallium arsenide in the amount of no more than 5 thousand plates with a diameter of 76 mm annually. At the same time, Russia consumes about 20-25 thousand plates. Domestic manufacturers cover only 20-25% of the market needs.[1]

2023: Theft of products worth 304 million rubles

A criminal group has been uncovered in the Moscow region, which for nine years carried parts for radar stations (radar) from the territory of the Istok defense plant and sold them. According to the investigation, the damage from their activities amounted to 304 million rubles. On September 12, 2023, the Kommersant newspaper wrote about this with reference to military investigators.

According to the publication, the criminal group included Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Tehan, captain of the third rank Timur Siyukhov, military representative of the first category Alexei Savchuk, head of the 213rd laboratory of NPP Istok Tatyana Baranova, driver of the enterprise Alexander Pichugin and general director of Redan LLC (production of electronic equipment elements and supply of electronic components and components) Yulia Shabanova.

For 9 years, products worth 304 million rubles were stolen from the developer of devices for radar stations NPP "Istok"

Investigators believe Tehan came up with the criminal scheme. According to the distribution of roles, the head of the 213rd laboratory, Tatyana Baranovai, artificially created surplus products, then applied appropriate factory markings to it and made fictitious documents. After that, the woman transferred the products to the military representative Savchuk, and he - to the driver Alexander Pichugin, who had invoices for the removal of parts from the territory of the enterprise. Yulia Shabanova, who received the cargo, searched for buyers and sold the stolen goods.

It was possible to detain the defendants in the criminal case red-handed in the fall of 2021. As part of the deal with the investigation, four of them pleaded guilty, repented and testified against accomplices. Tehan and his deputy do not admit guilt.

The cases have already been referred to the courts. So, the Shchelkovsky City Court of the Moscow Region on September 7, 2023 was supposed to consider in a special order a criminal case against Baranova, but, as the newspaper explained in court, the former head of the 213rd laboratory did not appear at the meeting. According to her lawyer, this is due to the fact that the woman became ill and she was hospitalized.[2]

2013: Production of microwave electronics for all types of communication and radar

The main area of activity of NPP "Istok" is new developments and serial production of modern and promising products of microwave electronics for all types of communication and radar (according to information as of February 2013).

The enterprise has closed technological cycles of development and production of microwave transistors, monolithic integrated circuits, microwave modules of any functional complexity, electric vacuum devices, radioelectronic equipment and its components.
