Irkutsk Aviation Plant (IAZ) is a branch of PJSC Irkut Corporation. During its history since 1932, the plant has produced about 7,000 aircraft of more than 20 types, which were delivered to 37 countries.

The basis of the modern IAZ production program is made up of multi-purpose Su-30MK and Su-30SM fighters, new generation Yak-130 combat training aircraft, components for Airbus A320 passenger aircraft.

The plant also launches the production of passenger aircraft of the MS-21 family against the background of maintaining the volume of military production.

The labor force of the plant has about 12,500 people.

History

2025: Approval of ₽65 billion funding for the production of 36 MS-21 aircraft per year

The Irkutsk Aviation Plant will receive more than ₽65 billion under an investment agreement with PJSC Yakovlev to launch serial production of 36 medium-haul aircraft MS-21 per year. This was announced on June 10, 2025 by the press service of the government of the Irkutsk region. The funds will be directed to a large-scale technical re-equipment of the enterprise with the implementation of the project until 2030.

According to Interfax, the investment council under the governor of the Irkutsk region supported the implementation of the project at a meeting led by the chairman of the regional government Konstantin Zaitsev.

The plane MS-21

Technical re-equipment provides for the construction and reconstruction of production facilities on the territory of the plant. It is planned to purchase and introduce high-tech equipment to ensure serial production of aviation equipment. The project also includes the recruitment of qualified personnel to work in modernized production.

PJSC Yakovlev is the developer of the MS-21 family of aircraft. The start of serial production of the liner is expected in 2026. Earlier, the dates for the start of mass production were postponed several times due to various technical and logistical factors.

General Director of PJSC Yakovlev Andrei Boginsky noted that the aircraft has a certificate in foreign version, but the company's task is to carry out work on import substitution. Production facilities are designed for 36 aircraft per year, the first firm contract was concluded and an advance was received from a leasing company for 18 MS-21 aircraft. The base customer is the Aeroflot group of companies.

Irkutsk Aviation Plant is a branch of PJSC Yakovlev and one of the key enterprises of the Russian aviation industry. The plant specializes in the production of civilian and military aircraft for various purposes. The company has the necessary production facilities to master the production of new types of aircraft.[1][2]
