2021: Creation of consortium of the Russian equipment manufacturers for a 5G networks

On February 1, 2021 it became known of creation by Rostec of consortium of developers of the equipment for 5G networks. A number of the Russian producers of the radio-electronic equipment agreed to enter this organization.

Interaction will consist in use of private technical specifications on development of separate elements of systems for 5G networks, the most effective and commercially attractive will be used — the director of Rostec of special instructions Vasily Brovko told Vedomosti.

According to him, any Russian equipment manufacturer of communication will be able to participate in cooperation, for participation in consortium it will be necessary to undergo technology audit of Rostec.

The edition notes that each of the developers who entered into consortium will have an opportunity to offer the software, the antenna or other element of the base station, and then after efficiency evaluation of this solution the producer of an end product will be able to use it.

Rostec reported that 10 leading Russian companies which make the radio-electronic equipment are ready to participate in cooperation, but did not call the specific enterprises. Vedomosti contacted representatives of some producers and developers, but those refused to give comments.

According to the experts polled by the newspaper, by the beginning of February, 2021 nobody alone can cope with development and production of base stations in Russia. Possibly, Rostec estimated that it will not be able to cover by own forces all complex of works, they consider.

The head of Content Review Sergey Polovnikov claims that today in Russia there are no competences and technologies for production of such equipment at all:

It is impossible to begin to collect from scratch base stations of a 5G, without having learned to do before competitive stations for the previous generations of communication. But the Russian producers will have no other choice except how to join consortium.[1]
