2023: Agreement on training specialists for the strategic direction of the military-industrial complex

The Shvabe holding of Rostec State Corporation, in cooperation with the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the Vologda Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Vologda State University (VSU), has launched a project to develop human resources for the optical and electronic industry. As part of the targeted educational program in Vologda, they will train highly qualified specialists who, after graduation, are guaranteed employment at the Schwab profile enterprise. Rostec announced this on August 30, 2023.

A four-party agreement on the training of specialists for the strategic direction of the military-industrial complex was initiated by the Vologda Optical and Mechanical Plant (VOMZ), which is part of Shvab, and supported by the Governor of the Vologda Region. The first stage of the pilot project will be training at the Vologda State University of a group of students in the profile "Optical devices and systems in mechanical engineering."

The targets are waiting for an intensive program of practical training. After completing their training, they will be able to work at the WOMZ. This company produces specialized civilian optics - sights, brackets, various accessories for sports and hunting weapons, as well as night vision devices.

For Vologda, this is a special project, since no educational institution in the region trains specialists in the optical-electronic direction, although the need for such personnel is high here. Within the framework of the agreement, a comprehensive training system will be created for enterprises in the optical industry. Students will be able to receive a high-level education, supported by a diploma of the Moscow State Technical University named after Bauman, in their region. We conducted a large-scale career guidance campaign in advance to find future students and recruited the first task force, which will begin training in the fall of 2023. The events planned under the agreement are part of our educational and professional track "Rostec. Biotechmed, "which the State Corporation is implementing together with the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. The purpose of this program is to train specialists in the field of creating information optoelectronic complexes using computer design and modeling tools capable of developing and producing biomedical and optical-electronic equipment, "said Nikolai Volobuev, Deputy General Director of Rostec State Corporation, member of the Bureau of the Union of Machine Builders of Russia.

In July 2023, the first laboratory in the field of "Optical Instruments and Systems in Mechanical Engineering" - "Laboratory of Optical Physics" was opened at Vologda State University. The curriculum and training program for the coming year were developed by VOMZ together with MSTU named after Bauman and Vologda State University. Classes in it will be held by teachers of VoSU and employees of the Vologda Optical and Mechanical Plant, including heads of leading design bureaus and engineers with extensive professional experience and a degree.

Before the start of the school year, WOMZ equipped the laboratory with computers and devices, including installations for demonstrating the effects of light interaction with various environments. They will be used in the training process.

It is important for us to quickly respond to the real requests of defense industry enterprises in terms of replenishment of personnel. The opening of a laboratory on the basis of VoSU will allow purposeful training of specialists in demand at VOMZ. The guys will be able to implement promising projects on high-tech equipment, and the plant's specialists will be able to transfer their knowledge and skills to the future generation of employees, "said Vadim Kalyugin, General Director of Schwabe, member of the Bureau of the Union of Machine Builders of Russia.

The company also plans to license the graduate program in the field of training "Optotekhnika" on the basis of the Vologda Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Its graduates will be able to continue scientific and development activities at the Vologda Optical and Mechanical Plant. In addition, it is planned to create a youth laboratory "Design and technologies of electronic means and optical-electronic devices."

As of August 2023, Schwabe is successfully developing cooperation with 47 universities and educational institutions of secondary vocational education. The Holding provides assistance in the organization of industrial and pre-graduate practices, in obtaining postgraduate education, adaptation of young specialists. Also, together with leading universities, it is working to create innovative and scientific and educational centers, open basic departments and laboratories. At the enterprises of "Schwabe" there are 12 basic departments and there are about 300 contracts on targeted training. Teaching activities in the departments of universities are carried out by more than 50 employees.

The holding's participation in educational programs brings its results. Over the past two years alone, 240 specialists who graduated from universities under targeted training programs have been employed at the Schwabe factories.
