Conclusion of an agreement on the construction of a medical equipment plant in Kaluga. ₽1,5 billion will be invested in it
On October 7, 2024, the State Corporation Rostec and the Government of the Kaluga Region signed an agreement on the construction of a plant for the production of medical equipment. Investments in the project will amount to more than ₽1,5 billion. The new enterprise will be located on the territory of the special economic zone in the Kaluga region.
According to the press service of Rostec, the document was signed by the Governor of the Kaluga Region Vladislav Shapsha and the General Director of RT-Medical Technologies Sergei Dmitrochenko. The agreement provides for the creation of a favorable investment climate in the region for the implementation of the project.
The new plant will meet high quality standards and will create a wide range of equipment for the treatment and diagnosis of diseases. The company will be located in one of the leading special economic zones of the country, which will provide the investor with benefits, preferences and support at each stage of construction.
The Governor of the Kaluga Region Vladislav Shapsha noted that the project will increase the availability of high-quality medical services, create new jobs and increase tax revenues. He also stressed that this agreement is a continuation of the long-term partnership between Rostec and the Kaluga Region in the implementation of scientific and technological initiatives.
RT-Medical Technologies General Director Sergei Dmitrochenko said that the construction of the plant is the most important step in the development of high-tech production of medical equipment in Russia. He noted that after the departure of foreign partners, the issue of import substitution became especially relevant, and Rostec is actively working on the creation of domestic analogues and the replacement of foreign equipment.
The corporation plans to quadruple the presence of Russian manufacturers in the medical device market. The total investment of Rostec in the development of the medical direction will amount to more than ₽10 billion.[1]
2023: Transfer of all Rostec medical technology developments to the company
At the end of May 2023, it became known that the state corporation Rostec was forming a single center for the creation, promotion and maintenance of medical equipment. In particular, we are talking about organizing the mass production of Russian equipment for ultrasound, resuscitation, anesthesia, emergency care, gynecology, etc.
According to the Izvestia newspaper, the new structure will have to coordinate the work of approximately 30 enterprises that are involved in the creation of medical devices as part of Rostec. The company that will oversee the development of medical instrumentation has already been identified in the contour of the state corporation: this is RT-Medical Technologies, headed by Sergei Dmitrochenko, who previously held the post of deputy general director of Shvabe for the promotion of civilian products.
The goal of the initiative is to increase Rostec's share in the segments of its presence and "enter the list of leaders" among suppliers of products for diagnostics, surgery, resuscitation, ophthalmology, dentistry and other areas of medicine. The fact is that in the current geopolitical situation, many foreign suppliers of medical equipment have curtailed their activities in the Russian market, and therefore the demand for domestic solutions is growing.
According to experts of the state corporation, as Izvestia notes, the volume of the market for medical devices in the Russian Federation is about 600 billion rubles a year. At the same time, at least 70% is accounted for by suppliers from "unfriendly countries." At the same time, Rostec in the segments of its presence controls no more than 5% of the medical sector. The figure is expected to rise to 20% by 2030. In general, the emerging market environment gives Russian companies an opportunity to strengthen their position in areas where foreign suppliers have dominated for decades.[2]
