History
2025
Smart cameras, tags on hardware and a single software platform. Launch of a large-scale digitalization project "Digital Apron"
Sochi International Airport is implementing a large-scale digitalization project called Digital Apron. It involves the use of smart cameras, special tags on equipment and artificial intelligence algorithms to improve performance, improve security and minimize the impact of the human factor. The comprehensive initiative is described in the material published at the end of November 2025.
The project provides for the creation of its own digital ground handling ecosystem. It is based on a private 4G/LTE network, which provides a high level of security, traffic control, reliability and communication stability. Digital tags track the location of equipment, routes and time of operations, while AI algorithms control any deviations from regulations.
All collected data enters a single software platform, including the DeckAir system, monitoring dashboards and positioning components. The project also developed a digital twin apron, which helps to optimize various processes, predict certain events, etc. It is noted that the introduction of a new ecosystem has increased efficiency, improved information security, and reduced costs.
Earlier it was reported that it is planned to organize testing of unmanned baggage transportation technologies at Sochi airport. The introduction of such machines is expected to help reduce the loading and unloading time of luggage. As a result, the productivity of the ground services of the air harbor as a whole will increase. To implement the initiative, the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Transport are developing an experimental legal regime (EPR), since the legislation in force for November 2025 does not provide for the use of robotic solutions at airports.[3]
Launch of the BAGS ID self-baggage drop system at Sochi airport
In August 2025, Sochi International Airport announced the opening of self-check-in counters for passengers and baggage for domestic airlines. The new BAGS ID service provides passengers with the opportunity to self-check in for a flight, check in and check in their luggage, significantly speeding up the service process and making it more convenient. In self-check-in kiosks, passengers can receive boarding passes and luggage tags, reducing the time for passing pre-flight procedures.[4]
Start of BAGS ID self-baggage transfer system
The Krasnaya Polyana resort, together with Sochi Airport, launched the first flight check-in and baggage drop-off service in Russia directly at the hotel. The new service allows guests of the Riksos Krasnaya Polyana Hotel to undergo pre-flight procedures before leaving the place of accommodation, receiving boarding passes and transferring luggage in advance. This became known on August 20, 2025. Read more here
