2021: Launch Organization to Create Open Source Mobile Software Development Tools

In early March 2021, the Linux Foundation launched the Mobile Native Foundation organization, designed to encourage the creation of open source tools for the development of mobile applications.

The founders of this organization include Lyft, Uber Technologies, Robinhood Markets, Airbnb, Peloton Interactive and others. Microsoft also supports this initiative with its subsidiaries GitHub and LinkedIn, which are also joined by Slack Technologies, a provider of mobile application development tools Sauce Labs and Square.

Linux Foundation launches Mobile Native Foundation to create Open Source mobile software development tools

Sponsors of the Mobile Native Foundation said that the creation of a new organization should fill a gaping gap in mobile development tools. There are many open source tools that simplify the creation of applications for iOS and Android. These technologies are useful for small projects, but cannot be used in really large-scale applications, such as the Lyft platform for calling passengers, which is supported by hundreds of developers. As a result, Lyft and many other companies that supported such initiatives were forced to create their own development tools to meet the requirements of their engineers.

Mobile Native Foundation will allow participating companies to pool their resources. Instead of creating tools for large-scale application development individually, team members can now work together on a common set of open source projects. Supporters of the group plan to develop tools that will simplify the creation of user interfaces and network functions for mobile applications. They will also be involved in other important initiatives, such as creating industry standards, developing best practices and models.[1]
