The Federal State Budgetary Institution "Helmholtz Research Institute" of the Ministry of Health of Russia is the oldest ophthalmological research center in Russia, which largely determined the formation and development of domestic ophthalmology.

Owners

The Helmholtz Research Institute is the head physician for ophthalmology in the healthcare system. The latest medical developments, experience in organizing and providing ophthalmic care in difficult situations allow you to return vision even in cases that previously lead to blindness.

The Institute is the base of the Center for Disaster Medicine "Protection."

Performance indicators

As of February 2016, the institute annually examines over 200,000 people on an outpatient basis, 8450 patients are treated in a hospital.

The institute produces about 15,000 operations per year.

History

2023: General Director of a medical equipment supplier sent to a pre-trial detention center in the case of embezzlement of 15.2 million rubles of the St. Petersburg Center for Eye Diseases

The Kalininsky District Court sent Ruslan Dronov, general director of NordVestStroy LLC, accused of especially large embezzlement of budget funds, under arrest. The joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg announced this case on November 13, 2023. Read more here.

Awards

The activities of the Institute were praised by the World Health Organization: in 1980, the WHO Collaborating Center for the Prevention of Blindness, the only center of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe, was established on the basis of the Institute. At the initiative of the Center, Russia actively joined the International Partnership for the Vision 2020 program. In 2003, the Russian National Committee for the Prevention of Blindness was organized, headed by Professor V.V. Neroyev, Director of the Helmholtz Research Institute of Eye Diseases.

For great merits in the development of domestic health care in 1986, the Institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.

In 2006, for achievements in the field of science and technology of medicine, the institute was awarded the title of Laureate of the International Profession - Life Prize.

The works of the institute's employees in different years were awarded state the USSR Prize, the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, the Prize of Academician M.I. Averbach, the Prize of Academician V.P. Filatov, the State Prize of the Government, Russia numerous diplomas and medals of VDNH, gold, silver medals and diplomas of the Brussels Exhibition.
