The first qualifying intensive also started, in which more than 212 people participate, 29% of them are girls. The average age of the participants is from 18 to 24 years old, the oldest is 50 years old. Among them are a photographer, seamstress, taxi driver, welder and representatives of other professions. In total, more than 3,000 applications were submitted for training, all of them came from residents of the Belgorod region.

During the qualifying intensive and basic training, participants from other cities are provided with a free hostel.

As of March 2024, more than 4,900 people from 70 regions of our country study in nine campuses of School 21 in Russia. 100% of graduates are successfully employed in large Russian IT companies and startups. By the end of 2024, it is planned to open seven more campuses of School 21 in the regions of the country. Admission to school does not depend on previous knowledge, work experience, programming skills and the availability of diplomas. Training takes place on a domestic digital educational platform with flexible and constantly developing content focused on the current needs of the market.

Every resident of Russia over 18 years old can check the level of his digital skills. To do this, it is enough to take part in the Digital Marathon competition, which is conducted by Sberbank and School 21. It includes an online game, testing, digital dictation and a final in Moscow. Each participant himself determines his own level of digital skills and knowledge - "Novice," "Researcher" or "Expert" - and competes with equals. The complexity of the competition tasks and prizes depend on the level.

The number of current students at Sberbank's School 21, which teaches programming for free, has reached almost 5 thousand people, Natalya Smelkova, director of the Moscow campus of School 21, said at a meeting with the press in February 2024. And about 800 people have already been released since the beginning of the school. So far, the issues have taken place only from the campuses of School 21, which were the first to open - in Moscow (700 people) and Kazan (100 people), TAdviser was specified in School 21. Graduation from the campus in Novosibirsk is on the way.

Moscow campus is the largest in the network of "Schools 21"

Of the current participants in the training, more than 2.6 thousand people are employed, about 1.8 thousand of them work at Sberbank, TAdviser cited data at School 21. The bank always has a great need for programmers. Some of the trained found places in other large companies, such as Yandex, Ozon, Tele2, Kaspersky Lab, Ingosstrakh, etc. All participants already graduated from school are also employed.

The most popular areas of study that participants choose are Java, Python, Go, backend development, DevOps. Studies can take from 1.5 to 3 years.

Persons from 18 years old are accepted to study at School 21. 35% of students are university students. 30% are girls, which is higher than the average for the IT industry, said Natalya Smelkova. 23% are people over 30 years old, and active participants from 40 to 50 years old are not uncommon in the community. There were also isolated cases of 70-year-old students.

At the start, knowledge in the field of programming is not required. Natalya Smelkova cited data that about 50% of training participants did not try to code before school.

Atrium of the Moscow campus, where various events are held

In Moscow, when the selection is opened, the pool of applicants gathers in just 10 minutes, says Natalya Smelkova. To get to school, you need to pass a serious selection. First, those who wish are invited to go through online games that reveal the abilities necessary for the programmer. After them, there will be a qualifying intensity lasting 26 days - a trial period. It includes 260 hours of training, 15 individual projects, 3 group projects and 4 exams. And after passing the qualifying intensity, the most talented and motivated participants are enrolled in School 21.

At the same time, details of how participants are selected for basic training are kept secret. Natalia Smelkova clarified that the assessment is made not only by hard skills. Many factors are taken into account. For example, how much the participant progressed during the intensive period, how much the teaching methodology suited him.

The theory for training is not provided, the training is based on practical cases of different levels of complexity. There are also no teachers at School 21, the teaching method is based on the peer-to-peer method, or mutual learning, when in the process the participants learn information from each other and practically learn from each other. Peer-to-peer technique assumes that you yourself are looking for a theory and share it with others, and if you do not find it, you ask others. And the task of the school is to provide an environment that will fruitfully lead the participants in the educational process, and good cases.

At the same time, there is an expert community at the school, which often acts as authors of content. It includes, among other things, teachers from universities, practicing experts from the industry.

Meetings with the School 21 team take place both online and offline on campuses.

On campuses, participants are divided into tribes, between which there are educational, sports and entertainment tournaments with prizes. The Moscow campus has four student tribes, each with its own coat of arms and other distinctive symbols, its own places on campus, online and offline platforms.

Each of the four tributes on the Moscow campus has its own distinctive signs

In the Moscow campus of the school, in particular, there are about a dozen rooms (clusters) equipped with monoblocks for performing educational tasks; coworking, where you can work from your laptop; atrium hall, where various events are held; kitchens; game room, etc. The school has various clubs, for example, the Robolaba robotics club.

The campuses of the 21 School are open 24/7, but there is a rule - only to sleep at home. This mode of operation is dictated by the principle of openness and accessibility - one of the principles on which the "School 21" is based. Many combine studying at the "21 School" with working or studying at the full-time department of the university, so the 24-hour availability of campuses is very convenient. In Moscow, a hostel has not yet been provided, but this option is available on some campuses in other cities.

On monoblocks, Internet access is open, necessary for study is installed, and software opening your laptops in clusters is usually not allowed. Most of the monoblocks used are from. Apple But a new cluster with an OS-based PC is being created on the Moscow campus, and Linux as the all-in-one fleet needs to be updated, the school also plans to install Linux-based computers.

One of the clusters on the Moscow campus is darkened. It is designed for those who are comfortable working without electric light.

School 21 also has partner programs with universities that differ from the main ones and are launched within the framework of the program of the federal project "Digital Departments" in accordance with the requirements established by the state. These are always different programs that are created specifically for a university. Natalya Smelkova told TAdviser that MGIMO, MISIS have such programs on the basis of the school . Now the school is developing a practical module for RUDN. There was also cooperation with Tyumen State Medical University, Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov. Cooperation with other universities is also being discussed.

Partner programs of the school are implemented on a separate floor

Natalia Smelkova said that the geography of School 21 has recently been expanding very rapidly. In addition to Moscow, Kazan and Novosibirsk, campuses are already open in Veliky Novgorod, Surgut, Yakutsk, Yaroslavl and Magas.

In addition, the school began expansion abroad, because in other countries it is also important to provide IT personnel. From other countries, they themselves turn to "School 21" on the issue of opening campuses. So, at the end of 2023, the school was launched in Samarkand (Uzbekistan). And in 2024 it is planned to open in Tashkent . In addition, at the stage of negotiations, cooperation with more distant countries.

The main training program is the same in schools in all regions, and "School 21" monitors the construction of processes on new campuses, participates in a set of teams. Already at the construction stage there are requirements that need to be met. Education in all new schools is also free. Whether it is also provided abroad with the financial participation of Sberbank, the School 21 chose not to disclose.

2019: Work starts in Kazan

The educational project of Sberbank "School 21," which trains world-class programmers, begins its work in the city of Kazan. The campus of "School 21" will be located in the historical center of the capital of Tatarstan, Sberbank reported on September 2, 2019.

The selection of candidates consists of three stages: an online game, a video interview and a four-week "pool" - a selection intensive on programming, which takes place directly in training clusters. According to the results of the selection, which will take place in two streams, more than 250 participants will receive the opportunity for free training in information technology using an innovative method. Also, participants will be provided with a hostel. In total, in 2020, "School 21" plans to accept at least 500 participants.

Already in the fall we will begin selection for winter "pools" in the building of "School 21" on Spartakovskaya street. The appearance of a branch of "School 21" with a hostel here will allow you to get a demanded profession not only for residents of Kazan.

The competition for training amounted to 14 people per place, for the first stream it is planned to open up to 500 places.

File:Aquote1.png
We were confident that the response would be wide enough, despite the unusual format of training. Our youth has grown in the conditions of accessibility and ubiquity of information technologies, the ability to work with them is in great demand in the labor market. And the format of the game is familiar and associated with what you like to do. Therefore, it is not surprising that the responses are already in the thousands, although only a week has passed since the announcement of the launch of Sberbank's School 21, "said Natalya Zhuravleva, head of the development and career department of Sberbank's HR unit.
File:Aquote2.png

The educational process in the school is based on individual and group work on IT projects, in which training takes place on the principle of "equal - equal." For the results of work and the objectivity of checking other people's tasks, points that form the student's rating will be awarded or written off. In addition, to control knowledge, four-hour exams and a final exam of 8 hours are provided, when passing which you cannot use the Internet and communicate with other students.

Launch of "School 21" for the training of programmers

Sberbank on May 24, 2018 announced the launch of School 21, an educational initiative to train world-class specialists in the field of programming. School education is free and lasts from 1.5 to 4 years. The school operates in 24/7 mode exclusively in an offline format (student presence is required).

Training at School 21 is carried out according to the French methodology, which in a playful form allows each student to build his own individual, adaptive learning trajectory. This approach allows you to keep a high internal motivation of students throughout the entire learning period, and also teaches you to acquire new knowledge in a situation of high uncertainty and an overloaded information field, explained in Sberbank.

The educational process in the school is based on individual and group work on IT projects, in which training takes place on the principle of "equal - equal." "School 21" has no teachers, lectures, grades and other familiar attributes of academic education. In accordance with the methodology, school representatives do not control the activities of students, but using the IT platform they check the quality of the final work and the completeness of their implementation within the specified time frame. For admission to school, it is not required to present the results of the exam, the main condition is motivation for self-development and the desire to become a world-class specialist. According to representatives of Sberbank, with the help of this methodology, the school will be able even from zero to train highly qualified specialists - architects of technological solutions, including in the field of artificial intelligence.

Anyone aged 18 to 30 who has successfully passed the qualifying competition will be able to become a student of the school.

It is planned that "School 21" will annually accept and produce up to 1000 new specialists in the field of programming.

The school is created on the basis of an agreement concluded between Sberbank and Association 42. The parties agreed on cooperation in the field of improving the quality of education in the IT sphere and granting the bank rights to licensed content and software, methodological and educational materials, as well as the necessary technical support from 42.
