2023: Banning employees from Apple tech

On July 19, 2023, it became known about the ban on the use of Apple devices by employees of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. The decision of the department followed the statement of the FSB that the gadgets of the American corporation are used by the US authorities for surveillance.

Exclude from July 18, 2023 the use by federal state civil servants of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, employees of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation who fill positions that are not positions of the federal state civil, as well as employees of organizations subordinate to the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, devices, manufactured by the manufacturing company Apple Inc., in the production, transmission and distribution by any means of information, formed in the course of their official and employment activities in the performance of their official duties, - says the document of the Ministry of Education, excerpts from which are quoted by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

It became known about the ban on the use of Apple devices by employees of the Ministry of Education

It is noted that such a decision was made in order to implement the doctrine of information security of the Russian Federation. As the newspaper added, in this way the department seeks to ensure the protection and control over the circulation of official information. The document was signed by the First Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Alexander Bugaev.

Since July 17, 2023, employees of the Ministry of Industry and Trade have already been banned from using iPhones and other Apple devices. The representative of the ministry, confirming this, linked the decision with information from the FSB and FSO that the US National Security Agency used Apple devices for surveillance.

After the publication of the FSB warning, Russian experts from Kaspersky Lab revealed the mechanism of a targeted cyberattack using the iPhone, which was used to imperceptibly introduce a spy module on many Apple smartphones.^[1]

2020: Appointment of Deputy Minister for Digital Transformation

In May 2020, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order approving Tatyana Vasilyeva for the post of Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation. In this position, she oversees digital transformation in those areas for which the ministry is responsible. Read more here.
