Performance indicators

2023: Growth in chip production 2.6 times to 7.5 million units

For incomplete 2023 - from the beginning of January to December 19 - Micron produced about 7.5 million chips for documents and bank cards, which is 2.6 times more than a year earlier. A little more than half of the volume of chips produced (about 4 million pieces) fell on chips of foreign passports.

As a representative of Micron told Kommersant, the plant will be able to significantly increase production due to the transition to domestic materials and lean production. According to a source close to Micron, the company was helped by the redistribution of existing capacities, but in 2024 the company intends to generally increase capacity by 50-70% due to new lines. The plant modernized and partially purchased equipment on the secondary market for the production of chips according to topological standards of 130-90 nm, an informed interlocutor told the publication.

Micron produced about 7.5 million chips for documents and bank cards for incomplete 2023

Kommersant recalls that at the beginning of 2023 in Russia there was a noticeable shortage of chips for biometric passports. The situation was similar in the segment of chips for bank cards. Ivan Pokrovsky, executive director of the Association of Developers and Manufacturers of Electronics (ARPE), in a conversation with the publication, noted that Micron and other microelectronics manufacturers manage to withstand the sanction pressure and "reorganize the supply of consumables, equipment and spare parts for it."

File:Aquote1.png
Enterprises operating in the state order market increased production volumes by more than 20%. In commercial civil markets, not everything is so unequivocally positive, but in general production is growing, "Pokrovsky said.
File:Aquote2.png

Arseniy Brykin, director of the Basis consortium, agreed with this point of view and added that the cost of products and the cost of purchasing equipment and materials are also growing.[1]

2021: Profit of the Zelenograd enterprise - 257.7 million rubles.

As it became known on April 6, 2022, the main domestic manufacturer of microchips, the Zelenograd enterprise Micron (part of the group of the same name) at the end of 2021 demonstrated a net profit of 257.7 million rubles. Thus, the organization for this indicator came out in plus for the first time in 12 years.

Image:Табл зеленоград микрон.jpg

The last time Micron ended the year without a net loss in 2009, showing a net profit of 262 million rubles. (a year earlier - 98.7 million rubles). In 2020, the net loss of the enterprise amounted to 2.51 billion rubles. Worse for the company ended only 2018, when the net loss reached 4.41 billion rubles. In total, over the previous 11 years, Micron has accumulated net losses in the amount of 19.27 billion rubles.

This follows from the comparison of the data of the financial statements of JSC Micron, compiled according to Russian standards - RAS (see table).

As for revenue, at the end of 2021, it reached 5.69 billion rubles, exceeding the previous year's figure by 725 million rubles. However, 2019 turned out to be a record for Micron in this parameter in recent years, when revenue grew to 7.95 billion rubles.

In turn, Micron's gross profit in 2021 amounted to 452 million rubles, while a year earlier it had a negative value of 553.5 million rubles.

The accounting report notes that in the total 5.69 billion revenue of the company 4.41 billion rubles. falls on "elements of electronic equipment," 326.4 million rubles. - for R&D, 730.8 million rubles. - for the "resale of goods," 17 million rubles. - for "other products" and 204.2 million rubles. for "other services."

Micron itself prefers to publicly demonstrate and comment on reporting throughout the group of companies, although the company of the same name plays a key role in it. At the same time, Micron forms such consolidated statements according to slightly different international standards (IFRS). In particular, in 2019, according to IFRS, for the first time in several years, the group demonstrated profit - in the amount of 584 million rubles. That is, the discrepancy with the data regarding only Micron itself under RAS amounted to almost 5 billion rubles. In principle, such a delta in the company was explained by writing off costs related to the previously not taken off project of the unified universal electronic card of a citizen (UEC) "[2]

10 types of buildings and 40 names of products will be produced on the housing line. Among them is the first completely domestic microcontroller with a core based on the open RISC-V MIK32 Amur architecture, which will be placed in a common QFN64 case - it can also produce crystals of other microcontrollers and processors. The line also allows the production of power control chips, transistors, stabilizers, amplifiers and other electronic components.

Cutting of plate with crystals before housing

Answering TAdviser's question about the further development of the product range, Gulnara Khasyanova promised to increase the number of types of manufactured electronic components to 60, including the development of Russian design centers.

File:Aquote1.png
The difference between our line is that we are not only ready to shell our products, but are also ready to provide contractual assembly services if someone comes with their plates, "Gulnara Khasyanova explained to TAdviser. - Various analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters and comparators can be produced on the line. Now Micron produces 40 types of products, next year this bar will rise to 60, including due to R&D, which is launched by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The number of products will only increase. And not only the components that we ourselves design, but also those that develop all other design centers, because we will develop in such a direction as foundry, when a third-party design center develops its products, and we produce plates for them, and now cases. We will actively develop this direction.

The sanctions brought down the release of a critical chip for compulsory medical insurance policies. How Micron rebuilt production

The court materials on the claim of NTC Atlas against Micron, published in the Electronic Justice system, provide details of the suspension in 2022 of the production of a unique MIK51AB72R chip, which is a key element of the plastic compulsory health insurance policy (compulsory medical insurance) and is issued only on Micron. In particular, the ruling of the Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal, issued in February 2024, states that the contract with NTC Atlas for the supply of microcircuits was concluded in November 2021, but in connection with the foreign sanctions imposed on Micron, the contract was only partially implemented - 1.2 million microcircuits were delivered to the customer.

Plastic compulsory medical insurance policy

The MIK51AB72R chip, due to which a legal dispute arose, is produced using CMOS technology (Complementary structure Metal - Oxide - Semiconductor) with minimum topological norms of 180 nm with four layers of aluminum metallization. The manufacturing process involves forming a multilayer structure of a semiconductor crystal on a silicon substrate using process equipment for photolithography, ion doping, plasma chemical and liquid etching, etc. As a result, a single-chip computer is created with a memory block of programs 160 KB and data 72 KB, as well as having a contact interface for a reader according to the ISO7816 standard.

Micron purchased 2 thousand plates under the contract, which were supposed to be enough for the production of 3.4 million microcircuits, however, in connection with the sanctions imposed in February, DNP Photomask Europe S.p.A. stopped supplying photographic templates. In addition, Cubit Semiconductor Limited, which was supposed to supply spare parts for the Varian VIISta 810Heg ion doping installation, terminated the paid contract unilaterally. Moreover, there was an alternative supplier - Corevision Limited, however, he also terminated the contract unilaterally. Prepayments for both contracts were never recovered. As a result, a new contract was signed with a Russian supplier.

Varian VIISta 810Heg Ion Doping Unit

The company had to look for an alternative supplier of photoresist JSR Micro and metalless developer AWF 56-933-11 due to the refusal to supply them with the Russian company TD Himmed. Micron also had to replace suppliers for such reagents as hydrochloric, hydrofluoric and sulfuric acids, as well as hydrogen peroxide due to the refusal of Elint SP, ChTUP IlPa TECH and TD Himmed.

After refusing to supply the metal-free developer AWF 56-933-11 by TD Himmed, Micron carried out production on the basis of reserves formed from December 2021 to February 2022, and at the time of the trial was carrying out work on the certification of the analogue. At the same time, in the Russian Federation "there are no production facilities that provide the necessary degree of acid purification," said the decision of the Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal.

File:Aquote1.png
For the period from February to December 2022, the defendant was forced to actually rebuild the technological process of the production of microcircuits MIK51AB72R due to the impossibility of supplying original materials and components from companies that refused to cooperate due to the inclusion of Micron in the SDN list, the decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court says, where the court case was considered in the first instance.
File:Aquote2.png

As a result of the restructuring of technological chains, production was restored, but the cost of each microcircuit increased from 75 to 110 rubles apiece. This is the "lowest possible cost of profitability." The customer represented by NTC Atlas did not confirm the production of another 1 million crystals at the new price and in January 2023 demanded to return the prepayment. The manufacturer returned more than 126 million rubles, but this did not suit NTC Atlas and a lawsuit was filed to recover a fine and penalties for delaying the implementation of the contract, as well as additional losses. The court confirmed, and the appellate instance upheld the payment of only a penalty of 16 million rubles.

At the same time, from September 2022, the issuance of compulsory medical insurance plastic policies was suspended[3]. The parties involved in their release did not voice the reason for this decision. But since January 2023, the compulsory medical insurance policy has become completely digital, and no longer requires hardware media in the form of a microcircuit - it can be shown on the phone screen, and when writing to a doctor, all data is transmitted through the State Public services portal.

Attempt to get a delay for the supply of chips after claims against the plant

On May 23, 2023, it became known that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is seeking a delay in the execution of contracts for the Mikron plant in Zelenograd. The company cannot cope with the volume of orders of chips for bank and SIM-cards.

According to Kommersant, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is trying to agree for Micron on the possibility of delaying the supply of chips for bank cards in such a way as to prevent new lawsuits against the plant. According to the newspaper, we are talking about an annual postponement. According to sources in the semiconductor market, Micron disrupted shipments due to interruptions in the supply of production materials and high workload of the enterprise.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is trying to agree for Micron on the possibility of delaying the supply of chips for bank cards

Micron has already received at least two major lawsuits over delayed chip shipments. In March 2023, Oren Kart filed a lawsuit for 268 million rubles. The parties managed to agree on a delay until November 30, 2023. And on May 18, 2023, the Moscow Arbitration Court accepted a lawsuit for 312 million rubles from the Alioth company.

In the publication of the publication of May 23, 2023, it is noted that against the background of a shortage of domestic analogues of microcircuits, Russian card manufacturers were forced to switch to Chinese chips, the cost of which has jumped three times over the past year.

Russian chips - despite the fact that they are not enough - are even more expensive. Judging by the text of the definition in the case of "Micron" and "Oren Card," published in the file cabinet, the cost of one chip ordered from "Micron" was 156 rubles. Tatiana Dobrovolskaya, financial director of Novakard, fears that with such a price situation, it will be difficult for Russian cards on Russian chips to compete with Chinese smart cards, in the export of which (and not just chips) Russia PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA is also interested.[4]

Plan to Start Production of Student Prototype Microcircuits in Multiprotect Batch Format

The resident of the SEZ "Technopolice Moscow" - JSC "Micron" - will become a semiconductor factory that will manufacture university designs of microcircuits in the format of multi-project batches (Multi-Project Wafer) with the coordination of the intercollegiate design center MIET. Micron announced this on October 24, 2022.

File:Aquote1.png
As of October 2022, NIU MIET, in collaboration with the SEZ "Technopolice Moscow" and the Association of Universities on an electronic component base, organizes an MPW service to create new samples of an electronic component base developed by small scientific groups and students. Collective production of prototypes, prototypes and small series of integrated circuits on one plate allows you to repeatedly reduce the cost of the necessary samples for each scientific group, - said Vladislav Ovchinsky, head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy, which is part of the Complex of Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations of the capital.
File:Aquote2.png

File:Aquote1.png
The production of chips is an expensive process, so we will place several dozen projects of Russian universities consolidated by MIET on one plate. This is a non-profit project aimed at training developers who can work with our technical processes and identifying promising startups. The development of Micron production will require hundreds of such specialists throughout Russia, - said Karina Abagyan, director of strategic development at Micron JSC. - During the project, Micron and MIET are counting on the formation of a general university base of IP blocks and developments on the terms of codes open to participants.
File:Aquote2.png

Receiving 7 billion rubles from the state for the production of chips

Market experts interviewed by the publication agreed that Micron's products could cover the resulting shortage in the Russian electronics market, which was formed after the departure of Western companies. However, 7 billion rubles is a fairly small amount for this kind of enterprise. In addition, the plant needs the development of technologies in order to keep up with Western analogues, otherwise stagnation and impasse will come in production, the director of the association believes. Plans to double chip production, this requires 10 billion rubles

On April 22, 2022, it became known about the investment project prepared by Micron to expand the plant's capacity. The company is going to double (to 6 thousand per month) the production of silicon wafers for chips on 180-90 nm topologies and estimated the implementation of this initiative at 10 billion rubles until 2025. The company expects to receive funds within the framework of the currently being developed national project for the development of electronics until 2030.

According to Kommersant, Micron sent this investment project for consideration to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The company plans to purchase equipment for new lines (etching, deposition and photolithographs) in the secondary market, an informed source told the publication.

Inside the Micron plant

According to the newspaper, the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine provided Micron with a full load of capacity with Russian orders - customers require semiconductors for telemetry, the Internet of Things and electronic cards. At the same time, only chips for bank cards require tens of millions annually, and the capacity of the enterprise does not allow the production of more than 10-13 million.

Theoretically, chips on 130-90 nm topologies could be produced by NM-Tech LLC (100% owned by ВЭБ.РФ, the authorized capital is 94 billion rubles). From 2021, it will restart production on the basis of the bankrupt Angstrom-T. The company is actively preparing for launch by April 2022. So, on March 23, the company published on the public procurement portal a tender worth $119 thousand for the purchase of silicon 200-mm plates (used to print chips according to topologies up to 90 nm). The preliminary concept of the new national project for the development of Russian electronics says that the power of NM-Tech will be 3 thousand plates per month. The plant can fully earn in 2023, follows from the document.

The Ministry of Digital Development told Kommersant that the need to expand capacities is understandable: demand is provided by reorienting consumers to Russian solutions in the segments of labeling, identification, chip cards and other products.[8]

US sanctions

At the end of March 2022, the US Treasury Department announced the imposition of sanctions against the Russian technology sector. In particular, restrictions are imposed on the chip manufacturer Micron, the Research Institute Vector (conducts research and produces equipment in the field of radio engineering and radio electronics, fulfills orders from federal ministries and departments, the Academy of Sciences, universities), as well as the developer of supercomputers "T-Platforms."

Now all assets of these companies under the jurisdiction of the United States will be immediately frozen, their management is prohibited from entering the United States, and US individuals and legal entities will be prohibited from doing business with these organizations. Sanctioned companies will no longer be able to obtain advanced US technology without a license, which will be denied in most, if not all, cases.

The United States imposed sanctions on Micron and T-Platforms

In an explanation to the decision, the Ministry of Finance said that it was imposing sanctions, including against the largest chipmaker in Russia, which exports more than 50% of Russian microelectronics, as well as against "malicious government cybercriminals." The agency stressed that the Russian military-industrial sector depends on Western technologies and new restrictions "will further complicate Russia's access to Western technologies and the international financial system."

As experts explained to RBC, if earlier Micron was under export restrictions from the United States, now the company has come under full blocking sanctions.

The sanctions list included the St. Petersburg Research Institute "Vector," which develops software and equipment in the field of communications. The reason for inclusion in the sanctions list is the participation of the enterprise in the development of the Liana satellite intelligence system, designed to control movements in the oceans. The Vector Research Institute is part of the Vega concern, which through the Russian Electronics holding is part of the Rostec state corporation. [9]

File:Aquote1.png
In a digital economy, the structure of the microelectronics market is changing around the world. In the previous decade, the main growth in demand was created by segments of PCs and smartphones that required the same type of chips. The Internet of Things requires a wide variety of specialized functional chips with low power consumption, a significant part of which can be developed for the technological processes of our factories and become a global driver for Russian production, subject to appropriate state regulation, - said Gulnara Khasyanova, General Director of PJSC Micron. - It is necessary to build production chains within the country, otherwise Russia will remain a donor of qualified engineers and finance for foreign vendors supplying ready-made solutions here.
File:Aquote2.png

5G device penetration is projected to account for up to 50% of total IoT devices. At the same time, more than half of microelectronics products for the Internet of Things are chips with standards up to 90 nm, which can be produced including by domestic enterprises. This is an important factor in technological independence, including ensuring secure storage of data, according to the company.

This area is strategic for Micron. The production and research facilities of the enterprise allow not only to produce a wide range of ECB products for the Internet of things and communication networks of the next generations, but also to act as a technological platform for Russian engineers, universities and research institutes that are engaged in developments in the field of IoT.

In addition, the development of the ECB is one of the key areas of the Digital Economy of the Russian Federation program, which defines the main goals, objectives and directions for the development of the digital economy in Russia: regulatory regulation, personnel and education, the formation of research competencies, information infrastructure and information security.

Rusnano must sell Sistema's stake in Micron by the end of 2017

On October 31, 2016, it became known that Rusnano had withdrawn from the Micron project (formerly NIIME and Micron) and was selling a stake in AFK Sistema chipmaker Vladimir Yevtushenkov. The deal should be closed by the end of 2017, for 20.42% of Rusnano will receive 8.1 billion rubles, and Sistema will bring its stake in Micron to 90.6%. The investment was not the most profitable, experts admit, but more profitable than other Rusnano projects in microelectronics. "System," according to experts and market participants, will look for a new state partner in the project.

"An agreement has been reached between Sistema and Rusnano to fully redeem our share after fulfilling a number of conditions," Rusnano confirmed. Under the terms of the put option of 2014, the transaction amount will be 8.1 billion rubles. for 20.42% of the shares. Sources of Kommersant claim that the parties agreed on restructuring: 4.8 billion rubles. Rusnano will receive by the end of the year, and 3.3 billion rubles. - no later than the end of 2017.

"The investment in Micron allowed us to fulfill two tasks at once: to ensure the commercial efficiency of investments and accelerate the development of Russian microelectronics. Rusnano acted here both as a successful investor and as a development institute. The partnership with AFK turned out to be comfortable, so we are counting on further joint projects, "says Alexey Firsov, Managing Director for Communications at Rusnano Management Company
.

At the time of the announcement of the transaction, RTI Group holding controls 70.189% of Micron shares, Rusnano owns 20.42%, another 6.55% from the Federal Property Management Agency, the rest from individuals.

"Financially, the deal brought Rusnano a little. Given the amount of investments and repurchase of the share, the average annual yield was about 3%, which is not comparable to the inflation rate during these years, - estimates Uralsib Capital analyst Konstantin Belov. - Back in 2014, when concluding the option, Rusnano understood that it was not worth counting on significant profits, and therefore agreed with the redemption price. "

At the end of 2015, Micron's revenue grew by 23% to 9.22 billion rubles, and the net loss amounted to 200 million rubles. against 1.6 billion rubles. in the previous year.

"Sistema
will have no problems financing this deal. MTS (controlled by AFK - Kommersant) and other assets generate profit, in addition, the corporation has opportunities to attract financing, "says mister Belov
.

But he believes that Sistema will probably look for a new investor for Micron among government agencies.

"Considering that Micron is unprofitable, getting at least some profit from a deal with it is already a win for Rusnano. And Rusnano also received interest on loans from Micron, so 8.1 billion rubles. - not all the money received from the project. Other assets of Rusnano in the field of microelectronics, for example, Crocus Nanoelectronics, cannot boast of such profitability, "says one of the top managers in the microelectronics market
.

He agrees that Micron will begin to look for a new investor among government agencies. The Board of Directors of Micron approved the next additional issue. The interlocutor of Kommersant, close to Sistema, claims that both state structures and RTI Group Sistema holding[18] to participate in the buyback of shares.]

The increase in Rusnano's share was due to the conversion of 37.67% of Sitronics-nano shares belonging to the state-owned company into additionally issued Micron shares. This enterprise participated in a joint project with Micron to produce chips with a topology of 90 nanometers.

As a result, Micron became the sole owner of Sitronics-nano, and Rusnano became the shareholder of Micron.

"The technological line for the production of 90 nm integrated circuits was opened in February 2012, and at the end of 2014 Micron released the first domestic dual-core microprocessors Elbrus-2SM using 90 nm technology," the System said.

In May 2013, Rusnano sold 12.5% of Sitronics-nano to Micron for 2 billion rubles, and in exchange for the remaining stake, it planned to acquire a 30% stake in Micron - the Federal Antimonopoly Service considered the corresponding petition of the state-owned company in 2013. True, the representative of "Micron" warned that by the time the transaction was closed, the assessment of the company "Sitronics-nano" and the size of the package could change.

"Rusnano" had no goal to get exactly the minimum blocking stake - a share of 25.101% was obtained based on the assessment of the company "Sitronics-nano," says the representative of "Rusnano" Denis Belozerov. Total investments in Sitronics-nano amounted to 16.57 billion rubles, of which Rusnano invested 8.25 billion rubles in the creation of a line for the production of 90-nanometer chips, Belozerov explains. He says Micron has now been able to increase its production capacity as a partner.

Alexey Dianov, a representative of Micron, sees the main effect of the transaction in simplifying project management and speeding up decision-making. Due to the fact that the infrastructure of the enterprise belonged to Micron, and part of the equipment of the 90 nm line to Rusnano, service and even access to equipment for adjusting technological processes required coordination in both companies, which took from several days to a month, he explains. Now that all equipment is completely under the control of Micron, no coordination will be required and all issues will be resolved in a few hours, hopes Dianov[21]

The Micron Group is consolidating production assets in order to create an effective business structure, which will be required to conduct a public placement of the company's securities in the future, says the general director of Micron, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Krasnikov.

As of July 2014, the board of directors of Micron, consisting of eight people, includes only one representative of Rusnano - senior investment manager Vladimir Konovalov, says Dianov. A change in the composition of the board of directors of the group is expected on September 22, 2014 at a meeting of shareholders. Perhaps the meeting will also discuss the participation of a new shareholder in the company's activities - Rusnano may bring new orders to Micron related to the supply of a domestic element base, Dianov hopes. Belozerov adds that Rusnano does not intend to interfere in the operational management of Micron and acts as a portfolio investor.

Starting the production of chips 65 nanometers

OJSC NIIME and Micron will launch in April 2014 the production of microcircuits 65 nanometers (nm), in which about 3 billion rubles were invested. Financing of the project was carried out according to the model of private-public partnership. About 1 billion rubles were invested in the technological part, of which 65% was invested by the state, and 35% by the enterprise. The funds were used to develop their own technology for creating microcircuits. About 2 billion rubles were allocated for equipment and infrastructure. Half of this amount was allocated within the framework of the federal target program "Development of the electronic component base," the other half was invested by NIIME and Micron OJSC[22].

The development of products based on 65-nm technology, according to the company, lasted about two years and ended in December 2013. Research has shown that transistors in new test crystals work 1.5 times faster than those made using 90-nm technology, which has already been mastered at the enterprise. At the same time, the energy consumption is more than halved.

In the third quarter of 2014, Micron plans to reach the volume of production of 500 plates per month. "We respond quickly to market requests. And for us it is not big problems to increase production capacity, "Krasnikov commented.

There is an agreement on the production at the Micron plant of 65 nm of products from MCST CJSC, which develops Elbrus processors, ElVIS-NeoTech CJSC, a developer of microprocessors for intelligent video surveillance cameras, and Progress NIIMA, a developer and manufacturer of GLONASS microcircuits.

Micron is included in the privatization plan

Government of the Russian Federation approved in the spring of 2014 changes in the plan of privatization of federal property for 2014-2016. So, according to the document, it is planned to privatize 9.8% of shares (2.433 million units) Research Institute of Molecular and electronic engineers Plant "Micron" (g.). Moscow According to the government, the privatization of federally owned shares of joint-stock companies will increase the volume of revenues to the federal budget from privatization, create conditions for companies to enter the market and change the corporate governance model.

Victory in the tender of the Moscow metro for the release of Troika cards

OJSC NIIME and Micron wins the Moscow Metro tender for the production and supply of plastic contactless smart cards for paying for Troika travel.

Obtaining ISO 500001 Energy Management Certificate

In the summer of 2013, OJSC NIIME and Micron was certified for compliance with the requirements for the ISO 50001-2011 energy management system. Micron is the first high-tech microelectronic company in Russia and the CIS to receive this certificate. There are now just over 400 ISO 50001-2011 certified organizations in the world, including Intel and X-Fab.

The implementation of this standard at the enterprise made it possible to optimize the cost of electrical, thermal energy and household water due to the possibility of their use in recycling mode. To achieve this goal, requirements were developed for the design and creation of new production facilities and utilities using energy-saving equipment.

As part of the certification, a new refrigeration and compressor station has been created, which has twice the total cooling capacity with less electric power consumption. A more modern nitrogen compressor station has been built. Air conditioning systems have been re-equipped. Modern means of controlling the expenditures of primary and secondary energy resources have been developed and implemented. An automated system of commercial electricity metering was created and put into operation, which made it possible to reduce the cost of electric power by about 1.5-2 MW.

The energy management system is a recognized system for controlling the receipt, management and consumption of energy. Micron invested more than 264 million rubles to bring its energy management system in line with global standards, and it is expected that these investments will pay off in the near future. "The productivity and capacity of our production is growing, while we consume" clean "electricity, thus the energy management system becomes strategic for us and for our demanding global partners. If all Russian industries had the opportunity to switch to such an energy management system, the efficiency of the Russian economy would increase, "said G. Ya. Krasnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NIIME and Micron OJSC.

Micron buys from Rusnano a stake in Citronics-Nano

In May 2013, OJSC NIIME and Micron began the procedure for consolidating production assets by buying out 12.5% of Rusnano's stake in the project company.Citronix-Nano

On May 29, 2013, Rusnano purchased a 12.5% stake in Citronics-Nano for a total amount of 2 billion rubles. As a result, the share of NIIME and Micron in the Citronix-Nano joint venture increased to 62.25%[23].

According to Micron, Rusnano does not plan to leave the microchip business entirely, so it can receive partially monetary compensation for its 50% stake, and partially - shares of NIIME and Micron OJSC.

According to Gennady Krasnikov, head of the Micron group of companies, "the consolidation of production assets is aimed at creating a clearly structured effective business structure."

Citronix-Nano is a chip manufacturer in the 90 nm topology. He owns a production line in Zelenograd, opened in February 2012 on the basis of OJSC "Research Institute of Molecular Electronics and the Micron Plant" in Zelenograd. The design capacity of the line is 3 thousand 200 mm plates per month.

Chips produced on this line are intended for use in navigation systems/ GLONASS, in GPS biometric passports, bank and social cards, - SIM cards, - RFID labels. The company acquired technology licenses from ST Microelectronics.

The shares in the Citronics-Nano joint venture were distributed between Sitronics and Rusnano at 49.75% each. Another 0.5% belongs to Zelenograd CJSC Amex.

With a project cost of 16.5 billion rubles. 12.97 billion were contributed to the authorized capital of the company, and half of the amount was contributed by Sitronics equipment, and Rusnano contributed the other half with money. Another 3.5 billion was contributed by a loan from Rusnano and the Bank of Moscow.

As announced at the launch of the project, its revenue in 2015 should amount to 12 billion rubles.

Exclusion from privatization plan

The Federal Property Management Agency excluded the microchip manufacturer NIIME and Micron OJSC from the federal property privatization program until 2015, a source close to the company's shareholders told ITAR-TASS in September 2013. According to him, in July 2013, a meeting of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Federal Property Management Agency was held, following which such a decision was made in connection with plans to acquire additional shares of the enterprise at the expense of funds allocated for the federal target program "Development of the electronic component base and radio electronics." Chairman of the Board of Directors of Micron Gennady Krasnikov confirmed to ITAR-TASS information about the postponement of privatization until 2015. The fact that the state is going to resign from the shareholders of Micron was reported in February 2013 - then the corresponding government order was issued. It is assumed that by the end of 2013, the Federal Property Management Agency will increase its share in the enterprise from 12.4% to 14%, a source told ITAR-TASS. According to him, the cost of Micron is about 17 billion rubles. with revenue in 2012 of 9.86 billion rubles, that is, the Rosimushchestvo package costs approximately 2.1 billion rubles.

Supply of microcircuits for Russian passports

Since the beginning of 2013, the supply of microcircuits manufactured by NIIME and Micron OJSC to a new passport has begun.

2012

Launch of 90nm chip line

A line for the production of microchips with a topological level of 90 nm has been launched. The launch of the new line will double the production capacity of the plant to 36 thousand plates with a diameter of 200 mm per year.

EDS SIM Card Plans

In 2012, together with FUO UEC, a domestic chip for the Universal Electronic Card was developed.

On December 6, 2012, Gennady Krasnikov, general designer and head of Micron, said that in 2013 the plant would begin industrial production of SIM cards with EDS.

According to him, great attention is paid to the project for the development of a SIM card with EDS. So in 2013, the company expected the first silicon chip, which will underlie the distinctive features of the new product.

"Now all operators are interested in our development and calculate all business models. When this analytics is over, it will be possible to talk more specifically about accurate production launches. Because in order to be able to take advantage of the full functionality of the product, it is necessary that operators carry out certain work with their infrastructure. In particular, provide secure channels when transmitting data on the provision of public services. I think that we have chosen the correct vector of development, "Gennady Krasnikov told TAdviser. "This vector is aimed at providing mobile phone owners with the opportunity to access government services using their portable devices."

According to Krasnikov's forecasts, Micron will test a new SIM card during the first half of 2013 and will be able to bring a finished full-fledged product to the market by the end of the year or the beginning of 2014. "To date, we produce about 70 million SIM cards per year. We predict that in the near future about a third (just over 20 million SIM cards per year) will be produced with the EDS function, regardless of what stage the modernization of the operator's infrastructure will be at, "he continued. "But as soon as operators work out the technology, an explosive increase in consumption awaits us."

At the same time Krasnikov , he noted that for the full use of public services using a mobile phone, it is necessary to produce a SIM card with an ID application. "So far, according to our developments, we can say that such a SIM card will be increased in size, which reduces its competitiveness," he continued. - But this, so to speak, the next stage, for the study of which, it is also necessary time. Now our task is to observe the reaction of citizens to the introduction, UEC SIM cards EDS with for analysis. If everything goes well, then we will be able to quickly bring to market a SIM card with an ID application certified by all authorized bodies. "

When asked about the possible timing of launching a SIM card with an ID application, Gennady Krasnikov suggested that this could be implemented in 2014-2015. "The fact is that this issue depends not only on us: there is a discussion of a new concept of the UEC, an ID document of a citizen of the Russian Federation. There is a dependence on many factors, "he argues. "But if necessary, we can release a SIM card with an ID application on the market within a year."

2010

STMicroelectronics sells 90nm technology to companies

An agreement was signed on the transfer to Micron of technology for the production of microcircuits with 90 nm standards from STMicroelectronics.

Decision on additional issue of shares

For 2010, NIIME and Micron OJSC is part of Sitronics OJSC, where it is the parent company of the Microelectronic Solutions business area. This business area included:

About 3000 people work in Sitronics Microelectronic Solutions, of which 1600 people work at Micron. 37% of employees have higher education.

In September 2010, it became known that the shareholders of Zelenograd OJSC NIIME and Micron approved an additional issue of shares (it is planned to issue 5.436 million shares in addition to the existing 10.858 million shares at a market price of 601 rubles per share) of the company for a total amount of 3.267 billion rubles. They will be distributed among shareholders in proportion to ownership shares if they express a desire to purchase issued shares. However, not everyone will have to pay money for additional shares. The main shareholder - "Sitronics" can make his contribution moneyless by offsetting the debt of "Micron" to "Sitronics." Other shareholders will have to pay cash, and if one of them does not want to do this, then he will remain with the same number of shares. In other words, shareholders who do not agree to give money to Micron will reduce their stake in the company.

Additional shares will be placed within a year from the date of registration of the prospectus. According to Irina Lanina, vice president of Sitronics, while the prospectus has not been registered, it is expected that the placement will take place by the end of 2010.

According to its current shares in Micron shares, its shareholders from the total amount of the additional issue 3.267 billion rubles. must pay:

  • Sitronics - about 2.5 billion rubles,
  • the state ― about 300 million rubles,
  • the remaining minority shareholders ― about 420 million rubles.

However, according to Lanina, the issue of the technical classification of the debt of the Micron plant to Sitronics OJSC in exchange for additional shares is being considered. We are talking about funds attracted by Sitronics in 2007 as a result of an IPO and aimed at creating a production of microcircuits in Zelenograd with a topological size of 180 nm.

The size of the debt is not specified. According to Micron's documents, as of the end of the second quarter of 2010, the company's debt to Sitronics for loans provided and interest on them amounted to about 8.4 billion rubles. That is, only the partial offset of Micron's debts to Sitronics will take the entire amount that the latter would have to pay for additional shares. Therefore, the additional issue of Micron for Sitronics will be virtually free.

Minority shareholders may be dissenting, because, as Lanina said, representatives of Sitronics and the state voted for an additional issue. If all minority shareholders refuse to pay, then after the issue of additional shares, the shares in Micron will be distributed as follows: Sitronics - 80.7%, the state ― 10.3%, minority shareholders ― 9.0%.

NIIME and Micron is the direct executor of the joint project of RUSNANO and AFK Sistema to create a production of microcircuits with a topological size of 90 nm.

China supply growth plans

Micron only trades with China through its own offices in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Taipei. In absolute terms, in 2009, Micron's revenue from chip exports fell, said Karina Abagyan, head of marketing at Micron. But in 2010, this figure will "undoubtedly grow," she is sure.

In September 2010, the Micron plant began supplying China with RFID chips produced using 180 nm technology on 200 mm plates. By the end of 2010, under contracts with Chinese electronic card manufacturers and system integrators, the company expects to supply 10 million chips[24]

In cooperation with the countries of Southeast Asia, there is nothing new for the Russian manufacturer; the basis of its export to the region has been analog power management schemes for 20 years. However, microcircuits for radio frequency tags are supplied by Micron for the first time.

According to Micron, the company is able to compete with Asian manufacturers in terms of value for money.

"The effective cost is provided by design solutions aimed at reducing the chip area and good yield," Karina Abagyan explained to CNews.

The final products created on the basis of Micron chips in China will be access cards - electronic keys for houses, offices, hotels. The company expects to promote its products among card manufacturers through the existing customer base and business ties in the region. Micron cannot sell its own finished products to China: due to customs and logistics costs, local assembly becomes more profitable.

The cost of chips supplied to China is not disclosed in Micron. "Judging by the description, this refers to a single-channel low-capacity electrically programmable memory, which is produced worldwide using old micron rather than submicron technology, and costs about 6 cents per crystal," said Alexey Tabolkin, CEO of Angstrom.

Tabolkin also suggests that the interest of the Chinese in Russian crystals on plates may be caused by the desire to resell radio frequency tags in foreign markets. "Major manufacturers in the US and Europe don't really want to supply their plates to China," he says. - From crystals, the Chinese make RFID tags and sell them back to Europe and the United States, thereby increasing competition in the market. It is clear that European and American manufacturers do not like this at all. "

2009

Performance indicators

The Micron plant is part of the Sitronics Microelectronics business area, which also consolidates the financial results of the smart card manufacturer Systronics Smart Technologies. The revenue of the entire direction under IFRS for 2009 amounted to $208.1 million, of which 15-20% fell on exports, on sales of RFID products - 35%.
