2024: Becoming a Wildberries Warehouse Construction Customer

The largest Russian online retailer Wildberries announced the termination of contracts with the company "WB Development," which acted as a technical customer for the construction of warehouse complexes. Information about this appeared on October 16, 2024.

The reason for the breakdown of relations was a violation of the deadlines and a unilateral stop of work on the part of the contractor. Wildberries has already notified WB Development of its decision. The technical customer for the construction of Wildberries logistics facilities is now VB Engineering LLC, the press service of the marketplace said.

Representatives of Wildberries stressed that the agreements with VB Development were, by their legal nature, contracts for the provision of services with contract elements. The company justified the unilateral termination of contracts, referring to the provisions of the Civil Code, which allow the customer to refuse to fulfill the contract before the delivery of the work result, paying the contractor a part of the price in proportion to the work performed.

The statement of the combined company Wildberries and Russ notes that land plots for construction purposes were not transferred to WB Development, and the necessary acts were not drawn up and signed. In addition, the contracts did not prohibit agreements with other technical customers or restrictions on access to facilities for other contractors.

To complete the construction, Wildberries has already entered into agreements with a new technical customer, whose name has not yet been disclosed.

Earlier, VB Development announced the freezing of about 30 construction projects due to debts to contractors in the amount of ₽15 billion. The company also claimed that Wildberries refused to accept a report on the construction of warehouses worth ₽26 billion.

One of the frozen objects, according to WB Development, is a warehouse in Shushary, which suffered from a fire in the winter of 2024. The company claims that the restoration of the complex stopped in September due to the termination of payments from Wildberries. However, the retailer denies this information, saying that restoration work is ongoing.^[1]
