The Central Economic and Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (CEMI RAS) is a research institution of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The institute conducts research in the field of mathematical economics, optimization, computer modeling; econometrics, applied statistics and economic informatics; macroeconomics, modeling the development of regional and production systems.


TsEMI Academy of Sciences of the USSR was created in 1963 at the initiative of Academician V. S. Nemchinov on the basis of the laboratory of economic and mathematical methods organized by him in 1958. The purpose of creating the institute was to introduce mathematical methods and computers into the practice of managing the national economy.

The first director was Academician N.P. Fedorenko. In 1985, he was replaced by academician V. L. Makarov, who heads the institute to the present.

In July 2018, CEMI RAS launched the Digital Economy electronic magazine (Digital-Economy.ru).
