2021: Financial Marketplace Launch

On October 4, 2021, it became known that Otkritie Bank had created its own financial marketplace. Probably, we are talking about the first such platform created by the credit institution itself.

According to Kommersant, Open Digital Solutions, a member of the Otkritie group, filed an application with the Central Bank of the Russian Federation for inclusion in the register of operators of financial platforms.

In accordance with the law on financial platforms, the minimum capital of a marketplace operator under the supervision of the Central Bank should be more than 100 million rubles, it should be a joint-stock company and cannot combine its activities with banking. The decision to include the applicant is made within 30 working days after providing them with all the necessary documents.

Otkritie launched a financial marketplace

According to Yuri Belikov, Managing Director of Expert RA, only large players who can cover the costs of implementing such projects from current revenues can afford to create marketplaces. Such platforms can become an integral part of the inclusive ecosystems of these organizations. First of all, services from small and medium-sized banks may appear on such marketplaces, which do not have sufficient resources to build their ecosystems and operate in conditions of limited sales channels.

A large bank will be much more economically profitable to have income from commissions from connected players than trying to seize the client base of a smaller player, the expert noted.

VTB told the newspaper that the bank intends to create a marketplace on the VTB My Investments platform and in this regard are negotiating with the Central Bank "on changing the legislation on the admission of professional participants and banks to this type of activity." Other credit organizations interviewed by Kommersant do not plan to launch such platforms.[1]
