2024: Opening of the centre

In Russia, in September 2024, the Center for X-ray, Synchrotron and Neutron Research was opened, which will become a key scientific platform for coordinating research in these areas. The new center was created on the basis of Novosibirsk State University (NSU) and is aimed at developing scientific projects related to the use of advanced radiation technologies. The center will work on long-term scientific projects and coordination of interdisciplinary research related to X-ray and synchrotron radiation, as well as neutrons.

According to Interfax, the creation of the center is carried out within the framework of the Priority 2030 program and the strategic project Radiation Technologies of the Future. The main task of the center will be to train highly qualified personnel to ensure the work of the Center for Collective Use "Siberian Ring Photon Source" (SKIF), the construction of which is underway in the Novosibirsk region. The center will also be engaged in the formation of scientific tasks requiring experiments using synchrotron radiation.

A new Center has begun work in Russia, specializing in X-ray, synchrotron and neutron research

Within the framework of the Center's work, new methods for diagnosing and obtaining functional materials used in applied and basic research are being developed. Also, the scientists of the center will develop methods for conducting radiation tests using neutron radiation. As the press service of NSU clarifies, one of the tasks of the center will be to analyze the structures of DNA repair enzymes, which will open up new opportunities for the development of methods of treatment of various diseases.

The project of creating the Center for X-ray, Synchrotron and Neutron Research is actively supported by the university and is being implemented with the participation of young scientists. As part of this area, a competition of scientific projects is held annually, the winners of which receive funding in the amount of up to ₽250 thousand to conduct their research before completing their studies.[1]
