The Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia earlier the Federal Migration Service of the Federal Migration Service

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of 05.04.2016 No. 156, the Federal Migration Service (FMS of Russia) was abolished. The relevant functions, powers and tasks were transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia to the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

History

2006: Establishment of territorial bodies of the FMS

On January 1, 2006, the territorial bodies of the Federal Migration Service of Russia were created, uniting the units of the passport and visa service and the units for migration affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Central Internal Affairs Directorate, and the Internal Affairs Directorate of the constituent entities of the federation, with their withdrawal into a separate structure of direct subordination.

2004: Establishment of the Federal Migration Service (FMS)

The Federal Migration Service of Russia was created by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of July 19, 2004 No. 928 "Issues of the Federal Migration Service."

The Federal Migration Service (FMS of Russia) was a federal executive body implementing state policy in the field of migration and exercising law enforcement functions, functions for control, supervision and provision of public services in the field of migration. The service was subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
