Additional Sponsorship Shelf Options
On April 5, 2023, the online grocery delivery service SberMarket announced that it had expanded the possibilities of placing sponsorship shelves - selection of promos of goods with brand identity on different pages of the service. Now, with this format, advertisers can draw attention to their product not only in the catalog and on the main page, but also in the shopping cart and search results.
Sponsorship shelves have become more integrated into the user path, they take into account the algorithm of buyer behavior. The shelves in the search allow you to select your product at the moment when the user is looking for an item in the application. It is possible to integrate your products on the shelf as "neighboring goods" (goods that customers usually buy with the product they are looking for). For example, at the request of "soda," the system will display a shelf with snacks.
The shelf in the cart prompts the user to buy the relevant additional goods. So, when the client has already included everything he needs in the order, he will see the "Don't forget to buy" shelf in the basket. It will be possible to find, for example, chewing gum, lollipops, bars, etc. Also in the future, it is planned to target the shelves to the user's basket, based on the filling of the assembled order - if the user adds dumplings, sour cream will be displayed to him.
We develop the technology tools of the advertising platform for our customers on a daily basis. One of them is sponsorship regiments. This is an effective tool for performance marketing. Depending on the product advertised, its performance is on average several times higher than regular banners. Therefore, we decided to expand the possibilities of using such advertising in SberMarket - now our customers will be able to make their products more visible in the search and cart. We continue to add new promotion tools and work to improve their effectiveness, - commented Sergey Yurchenko, director of advertising products at SberMarket. |
In September 2022, SberMarket updated the advertising platform, at the same time the advertising coverage was expanded 3 times. In 2022, more than 10 formats were launched for service partners. Plan to start certifying advertising agencies in the Retail Media segment from the second quarter
On January 19, 2023, the online grocery delivery service SberMarket announced that it would begin certifying advertising agencies from the second quarter of 2023. The service regularly conducts training on working with the advertising platform, helping to develop experts in the new and rapidly growing segment of Retail Media. With the introduction of certification, a tool will appear on the market that will allow professionals to confirm their knowledge of the formats and specifics of working with the SberMarket platform.
After a series of training webinars from platform specialists and passing voluntary certification in the form of a test, agency employees will be able to more effectively use advertising formats in the service. The test will include questions on understanding the work of tools for interacting with users and promotion formats on the platform. To become a certified partner, you must have at least 75% certified specialists in the team. In test mode, the E-Commerce team of the Group4Media media holding has already passed certification.
The turnover of online commerce in Russia from January to September 2022 increased almost 1.5 times. And according to Data Insight, the market volume by 2023 will amount to 5.2 trillion rubles. At the same time, there is an interest of advertisers in Retail Media. For example, RAEK predicts an increase in the share of the segment of this format to 30% in the next 30 years among online advertising. In 2022, we realized what qualities our partner should have in the field of e-com advertising. In test mode, we certified the Group4Media. This experience was successful, and we decided that we were ready to train the e-com market. Therefore, we want to create a general certification structure, - commented on the introduction of certification Lyudmila Marlier, director of the advertising platform SberMarket. |
2022: Banner advertising starts selling to third-party advertisers
SberMarket's advertising platform began selling banner advertising (Click out) on its platforms to third-party advertisers. Until that moment, the service advertised only those brands that are presented in the catalogs of partner retailers of SberMarket, which announced this on June 23, 2022.
At the same time, Click out is suitable for both external advertisers whose goods and services are not sold on the SberMarket and FMCG brands to announce non-trading activities.
Advertising of third-party sites and brands within the SberMarket becomes especially relevant in a situation where marketing channels are reduced - significant players leave, which accounted for a large share of advertising inventory. Now not only products from the catalogs of partner retailers will be advertised with us, but also manufacturers, services, sites or online stores. We have already begun to cooperate with several companies in this direction, for example, with telecom operators, "said Lyudmila Marlier, director of the advertising platform SberMarket. |
Click out will allow third-party brands to effectively build knowledge of their product. For this task, banner formats are used that lead to third-party resources. By clicking on the link on the banner, the user gets to the landing or online store, which contains more detailed information about the product or service, as well as the terms of purchase.
The development of the advertising platform is one of the priority areas of SberMarket. Thanks to Ads Platform, brands and advertisers will be able to increase their sales online, as well as build knowledge about their products and transit their products through sampling. Over the past year, several additional products and services have appeared in the Ads Platform portfolio: deep analytics for brands and manufacturers, updated promo formats - games, special projects, sampling, onboarding, prioritization in the catalog, super banner on the main one and others.
The launch of an advertising platform for FMCG brands in SberMarket took place in the first quarter of 2020. The results of this area show that the product is in demand by many advertisers - as of June 2022, there are more than 70 brands of the largest companies in the service's client portfolio. In 2021, the share of the advertising platform reached 1% in the total turnover of the company.

According to statistics, the number of goods delivered by Sberbank in 2020 increased 14.3 times, to 5.9 million. The number of partners among retailers increased 13 times, to 66 chains - at the beginning of the year there were five.

It is also reported that in 2020, Sberbank developed the availability of the service - in the "high season" customers could place and receive an order from the hypermarket on the same day in an average of three hours. As a result, even during the New Year's hype, Sberbank delivered more than 50 thousand orders per day, and the average estimate for an order at the end of the year was 4.89 points out of 5. The number of assembly and delivery partners at the end of the year exceeded 15 thousand people throughout Russia.
In addition, Sberbank began to develop the direction of direct cooperation with brands and advertisers - the Brand Solutions advertising platform. By the end of 2020, the number of customers of the new division amounted to 160, including the largest advertisers - Mars, Nestle, Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Unilever. In December, the share of Brand Solutions reached 1.3% in the turnover of the entire company.
According to the results of the second half of the year, the turnover of Sberbank amounted to about 14 billion rubles. This exceeds the indicators of all other companies in the grocery delivery market - the company was ahead of other players in terms of development, Sberbank said.[5]
The SberMarket grocery delivery service, which is part of the ecosystem of bankers from Sber, is growing with space speed. The number of deliveries per year increased 14 times to 5.9 million, the turnover - up to 20.7 billion rubles. It turned out from the disclosed business results for 2020.
So, SberMarket is already ahead of Utkonos in terms of turnover and is catching up with the online business of the leader of grocery retail in Russia - Kh5 Retail Group.
Sber allocated 12 billion rubles for the development of SberMarket
On November 30, 2020, Sberbank announced the investment of 12 billion rubles in its service for the delivery of products from SberMarket stores. Lev Khasis, First Deputy Board of Sberbank, spoke about these investments during a presentation to investors of a new ecosystem strategy.
According to him, a "significant part" of these investments will go to the development of SberMarket's business. Hasis also announced Sberbank's intention to buy a majority share of the service.
We decided to acquire a majority stake in SberMarket. The remaining shares will remain with the founders, management and several minority shareholders. The deal will be closed after receiving the necessary regulatory approvals, "he said. |
Also, the top manager of Sberbank announced the launch of a universal cross-category marketplace in 2021. Commenting on this project, Hasis did not go into details and only noted that Sberbank will strive to take a strong position in key product categories, such as electronics and household appliances, clothing and shoes, products and consumer goods, as well as beauty and health.
By November 2020, about 50 companies are included in the Sberbank ecosystem, of which about three dozen are key. In early November, the head of Sberbank, German Gref, told reporters that in the future it is planned to expand its ecosystem, primarily in the field of e-commerce.
Lev Khasis admitted on November 30, 2020 that Sberbank's attempt to become a leading player in the e-commerce market is still unsuccessful.
Some of our initiatives have not evolved as we originally planned. Perhaps the most painful example of something going wrong is trying to build a meaningful e-commerce business within our ecosystem. Unfortunately, all three of our attempts to implement such a project within the framework of our previous strategy ended unsuccessfully, "he said.[6] |
