Joint Stock Company "State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation Trinity Institute of Innovative and Thermonuclear Research" (JSC "SSC RF TRINITIES") is an enterprise of the State Atomic Energy Corporation "Rosatom." The main activities of the Institute: scientific activities in the field of plasma physics, controlled thermonuclear fusion, laser physics and technology, physics of the extreme state of matter, physics of energy conversion processes, R&D related to the implementation of the State Defense Order, the development of physical models and calculation codes for predicting the behavior of fuel and elements of the active zones of nuclear reactors.

History

2025: Agreement with MEPhI on the creation of a center to provide personnel for the Tokamak with Reactor Technologies project

The State Scientific Center Trinity Institute of Innovative and Thermonuclear Research (JSC "SSC RF TRINITIES) and the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI signed an agreement on the creation of a joint scientific and educational center to provide personnel with the project" Tokamak with reactor technologies "(TRT), implemented within the framework of the national project of technological leadership" New atomic and energy technologies. " MEPhI announced this on August 4, 2025.

The joint center is created with the aim of combining opportunities, resources, educational and intellectual potential to stimulate the training and consolidation of highly qualified personnel in the TRT project and mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of science and education.

The official document was signed at the end of June 2025 by the Acting General Director of SSC RF TRINITIES JSC Alexei Voronov and the rector of NRNU MEPhI Vladimir Shevchenko.

The main areas of cooperation between the scientific center and the university will be the development of personnel scientific potential with the involvement of students, graduate students and young employees of NRNU MEPhI to the TRT project. All this will include the organization of joint events, conferences, scientific schools, the development of educational programs and individual plans for students, graduate students, including internships and involvement in the implementation of real practical tasks in the interests of TRT, as well as stimulating scientific and technical cooperation in the field of controlled thermonuclear fusion and the TRT project, - said Andrei Kuznetsov, Director of the Institute of Laser and Plasma Technologies of NRNU MEPhi.

Tokamak with reactor technology (TRT) is being developed as a full-scale prototype of a future fusion reactor or neutron source. It is designed to study the behavior of plasma in quasi-stationary modes, research and development of methods for additional plasma heating, fuel supply and much more. The plant will be built at the site of JSC SSC RF TRINITIES (an enterprise of the scientific division of Rosatom).
