Cooperation with LANIT-Integration in the field of technology research for agriculture

LANIT-Integration (part of the LANIT group of companies) and the HSE technological transfer center signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of technology research for agriculture and product promotion markets. This was announced on August 31, 2020 by LANIT.

Cooperation involves joint research and the organization of applied scientific activities. The experience of LANIT-Integration in the field of technology and the expertise of the Higher School of Economics in the field of analytical work and education, as well as scientific groundwork for the study of the legal and economic aspects of modern agricultural technologies, will make it possible to form a unified vision of the scientific and technological development of the agro-industrial complex of the Russian Federation. The partners plan to conduct a joint study of promising areas of agricultural development to proactively identify points of application of digital technologies.

File:Aquote1.png
The global agro-industrial complex is rapidly being technologized. Digital technology is changing the control system, making it more distributed, horizontal. The active use of IoT leads to the autonomy of production components and deepens the informatization of agro-industrial processes, minimizes losses from the so-called "human factor." At the same time, it becomes necessary to take into account various types of technological processes related to soil cultivation and crop cultivation, which is reflected in the interaction between agricultural production entities and representatives of other industries in the "production - implementation" chain. Cooperation with LANIT-Integration is being built within the framework of the CTT project to study the needs of different segments of the agro-industrial complex in digital technologies and develop approaches to creating a unified digital ecosystem of the Russian agro-industrial complex.
File:Aquote2.png

Pavel Svarnik, Executive Director of the Center for Strategic Development and Digital Transformation of LANIT-Integration, noted: {{quote 'Agriculture is a production area, economic entities carry out a variety of technological activities in large spaces, producing various types of massively demanded products and services. Decisions here are made on the basis of data, processes are managed promptly, so the whole range of technologies for planting and harvesting crops, their cultivation, protection and storage, and not just "digital" should be considered. As manufacturing technologies find application, IT solutions will complement them, enrich, ensuring the efficiency of business processes, creating opportunities for the development of the shared economy and the formation of various ways of creating value, forming mechanisms of interaction and exchange between economic agents, while reducing the role of geographical, temporary and other factors affecting socio-economic processes, institutions and phenomena, and ultimately we will see synergy. }}

Participants in the agreement on the study of promising technologies are also conducting independent practical work on the requests of agricultural enterprises to digitalize their activities and to implement standards for automating production and management processes.

Opening a joint laboratory with Samsung Research

As it became known in March 2018, the Higher School of Economics opens a joint laboratory with Samsung Research.

Samsung-HSE Laboratory will develop Bayesian output mechanisms in modern neural networks, which will solve a number of problems in deep learning. The laboratory team will be made up of employees of the research group of Bayesian methods of the Faculty of Computer Science of the Higher School of Economics, a scientific group in the field of machine learning and Bayesian inference. It will be headed by HSE professor Dmitry Vetrov.

As you know, neural networks and Bayesian models are two popular paradigms in the field of machine learning. The first made a real revolution in the processing of large amounts of data, giving rise to a direction called deep learning. The latter have traditionally been used for processing small data. The neurobayes approach can potentially solve a number of open problems in deep learning: the possibility of catastrophic retraining to noise in data, self-confidence of the neural network even in erroneous predictions, non-interpretability of the decision-making process, vulnerability to hostile attacks (adversarial attacks). All these problems are recognized by the scientific community, many teams around the planet are working on their solution, but there are no ready-made answers yet.

File:Aquote1.png
In its developments, amsung Electronics uses many deep learning models. But in order to keep up with competitors, it is not enough just to use ready-made models. It is necessary to create new machine learning technologies. This is all the more important because the field of in-depth training has not yet "settled down" and every year more and more new models appear, and existing ones are quickly becoming obsolete, "explained Dr. Gingbe Li, head of the AI Center, a recently created division of Samsung Research. - All this means that humanity has not yet found the optimal solution for processing large amounts of data. Therefore, cooperation with leading scientific groups in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence at universities around the world allows you to "keep your finger on the pulse" and track the most recent achievements in the field, as well as gain exclusive access to technologies created in partner laboratories.
File:Aquote2.png

File:Aquote1.png
Samsung's decision to choose our group as a key partner in Russia, giving us the opportunity to focus exclusively on basic research, is a sign of recognition of our scientific achievements and at the same time a credit of trust, which we will try to fully justify, "said Dmitry Vetrov, head of the joint laboratory and head of the Bayesian Methods Research Group at HSE. - Our laboratory will be engaged in the creation of new technologies, that is, the most interesting from the point of view of the scientist. Our goals fully coincide with the wishes of our partners, which serves as the key to successful and long-term cooperation.
File:Aquote2.png

In addition to scientific projects, the joint HSE laboratory - Samsung will actively participate in the educational process. Both students and graduate students of the Faculty of Computer Science will be involved in the work in it. In August 2018, with the support of Samsung, the second summer school on neuroscience methods will be held.

Laboratory of Big Data Analysis Methods (LAMBDA) opened at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science

At the Faculty of Computer Science, the Faculty of [6] the Higher School of [7] the HSE together with Yandex, opened a laboratory of methods for analyzing Big Data (LAMBDA). The goal of the new research and training laboratory is to form a world-class research center for solving fundamental problems in the field of computer science and the development of Big Data processing and analysis methods .

Big data (or Big Data) is a huge amount of structured or unstructured information, such as, for example, social networks, document archives, and stock market indicators. The task of Big Data Analysts is to obtain human-perceived results after processing this amount of data. The term itself was introduced into use relatively recently - in 2008, and as an academic subject, Big Data analysis appeared only two years ago, so the potential for studying this field of knowledge is enormous.

Thanks to working with Big Data, business problems are solved, such as, for example, predicting the likelihood of a loan refund or a client leaving a certain company, but Big Data is not limited to commercial interests - CERN physicists use them to find new particles, test and refute hypotheses about the structure of our universe.

Several research groups will be formed in the laboratory, the first of which will devote its work to physics. Together with the School of Data Analysis, which is a member of the LHCb experiment (http://lhcb-public.web.cern.ch/lhcb-public/), laboratory staff will work on algorithms for analyzing the arrays of data accumulated in CERN when observing particle decay.

The laboratory will be headed by the head of joint projects of the Yandex School of Data Analysis and the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) Andrei Ustyuzhanin. "This laboratory will expand the range of competencies of the Higher School of Economics for the analysis of heterogeneous data sets," Ustyuzhanin said, "we plan to cover tasks from both scientific and business areas. Our goals include extracting practical benefits from available data, as well as enriching methods for finding new patterns. Our immediate plans are to form a team and search for new applied areas of research. "

Moscow Center for Research and Development EMS and HSE created a design and training group on bioinformatics

The EMS Moscow Center for Research and Development for Cloud Computing and Big Data (EMC Research Center) and the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) signed an agreement on the start of cooperation in December 2014, which provides for the creation of a design and training group on bioinformatics. The group included students, graduate students and teachers of the Higher School of Economics. The project manager from the EMS Research and Development Center was Meier Evgenia, Director of Business Development at the EMS Research and Development Center.

Bioinformatics is one of the most promising areas of computer science, which deals with theoretical issues of storage and transmission of information in biological systems. The main section of bioinformatics is computer genomics, which solves the problems of decoding genetic data stored in DNA and RNA nucleotide sequences. To develop bioinformatics, it is necessary to create computer databases on molecular biology, providing genomics with the necessary experimental data in sufficient quantity and convenient for use.

The formed group will focus on conducting a large-scale study of the bioinformatics market, which will include a detailed description of the entire "ecosystem" of bioinformatics in Russia: bioinformatics programs, information about companies conducting bioinformatics research, as well as educational institutions engaged in the popularization of this branch of science. In addition, specialists will take part in the organization of the spring school of bioinformatics in Moscow, and will also create a Russian-language online course "Bioinformatics" - a continuation of the program of the Research Center of EMS "Introduction to Big Data Analytics," which can be found on the website of the National Open University "INTUIT."

EMS Research Center and HSE have already had experience working together: the corporation's experts have repeatedly delivered lectures to students on such topical topics as big data analytics and storage systems.

First April International Scientific Conference held

In 2000, the first April International Scientific Conference on Economic and Social Development was held, which has since become the most notable academic event in the country. Every year, in addition to researchers from Russia and abroad, the leaders of the Government of the Russian Federation and the Presidential Administration of Russia, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the heads of the largest Russian and foreign companies participate in it.

1997

Campuses in St. Petersburg and Perm

In 1997, the campuses of the School opened in St. Petersburg and Perm.

Establishment of the International Institute of Economics and Finance

In 1997, the university became one of the first Russian universities to successfully implement on Russian soil (several years before the start of the Bologna process) the so-called "two-degree program." The Higher School of Economics and one of the leaders in economic education in the world - the London School of Economics (LSE) created the International Institute of Economics and Finance (MIEF). The creation of a bachelor's and master's degree at MIEF of international level became possible thanks to the financial support provided by the largest banks, companies and financial institutions: VTB24, Vneshtorgbank, Sberbank. Training in programs from the first year began to be conducted in English, and graduates receive two diplomas at once.

1996: First regional campus in Nizhny Novgorod

In 1996, the first regional campus in Nizhny Novgorod appeared at the Higher School of Economics.

1995: Start training sociologists, managers and lawyers

Since 1995, the HSE began to turn into a university, where, along with economists, sociologists, managers and lawyers are trained. Around those who came to the School O. Shkaratan, L. Ionin, S. Filonovich and other leading teachers, effective scientific and pedagogical teams began to form.

At the same time, a system of HSE scientific centers is being created, focused on applied research on the orders of the Ministry of Economy, the Central Bank, the Ministry of Education and Science, commercial enterprises and banks.

By this time, we can say that the principles of the School were formed, settled:

  • reliance on the requirements of world economic and social science;
  • interdisciplinary interaction (economists receive a law degree, and vice versa);
  • direct connection of teaching with reform practice, with the results of applied research;
  • educational mission in the educational community of Russia, in its regions.

Political activity in the School is prohibited. Educators have the right to draw any conclusions, to uphold socialist, Keynesian or liberal principles, if their arguments are based on modern theoretical analysis of factors.

1992: Establishment of the Higher School of Economics

The Higher School of Economics was established by the Decree of the Government of Russia on November 27, 1992, initially as a master's training center.

The starting period was marked by intensive "teacher training": R. Entov taught the entire team of teachers - mainly former employees of academic institutions and Moscow State University - a course on the nodal problems of economic theory, and G. Kantorovich updated their knowledge of mathematics. Since 1993, HSE teachers have regularly trained at leading European universities.

The principle of the School from the first day of its existence is a combination of strict, even cruel training with the discussion and solution of the burning problems of the Russian economy. HSE professors were leading economists who worked in the Government - E. Yasin, A. Shokhin, S. Vasiliev, J. Urinson, V. Kosov, E. Gavrilenkov, M. Kopeikin, V. Baranov.

1991: L. Abalkin and E. Gaidar support the idea of creating a new university

In 1991, Yevgeny Yasin and Yaroslav Kuzminov, with the very active help of L. Abalkin and E. Gaidar, began to "break through" the concept of a new state university. Initially, he thought at the Department of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

1990: Alternative Departments of Economic Theory at MIPT and Moscow State University

The idea of the School was born at the turn of 1980-1990, when it became clear that the existing system of economic education in the country did not meet the requirements of the new political and economic situation. Then a group of teachers from the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University - Evgeny Yasin, Yaroslav Kuzminov, Revold Entov, Oleg Ananyin, Rustem Nureyev - after several attempts to introduce the foundations of "normal" economic theory into the curricula of existing universities realized the need to build a new economic school, which from the very beginning would be based on the principles of world economic science. This meant providing students with tools for analyzing and predicting real processes, teaching them to work with statistics and economic models, and giving them a common language with the world community of professional economists.

The first real attempt to create the School can be considered alternative departments of economic theory, organized at MIPT (1989-1990) and at the physical and historical faculties of Moscow State University (1990-1991). Students could choose between courses taught by young teachers, yesterday's economics graduates, and traditional political economy. Many of those who later made up the HSE backbone went through the school of these departments. The methodology of teaching economic theory in a country with a transitional economy was also worked out there.

Traditions

Crow

The crow has been considered a symbol of the Higher School of Economics for many years. It was invented by the artist Anna Arenstein, who in 1996 illustrated a new information booklet about Vyshka. Now the crow can be found on any HSE souvenir, it has also become a symbol of the university's annual awards.

Golden Tower Award

The main university award ceremony has been held since 2001. The number and name of nominations changed during this time, but the prize is invariably awarded to the best teacher, the best researcher, the best graduates and the people who made the most significant contribution to the development of the university. Prize winners are determined by voting results and receive a golden raven statuette.

Cast Iron Egg Student Award

In 2004, HSE students established their annual award. This is how the eternal question was answered: what happened before - a bird or an egg? "Cast iron egg" celebrates the best student projects and achievements in various directions - from sports to charity.

Day of the Tower

Timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of HSE in 2012, this holiday for the first time united both Freshman Day, the alumni meeting, and open days of various HSE faculties. And since the entire event was held outdoors in Gorky Park, HSE Day became a truly urban holiday, open to everyone.

Final

The youngest of the traditions of the Tower, whose graduates are becoming more and more. To bring together all the graduates of 2013, it took one of the largest venues in Moscow - Luzhniki.
