Tricolor also continued to develop the Satellite Internet service. The demand of Russians for it in 2022 increased by 60% compared to 2021. The key factors in the growth of demand were the abolition by mobile operators of unlimited tariffs, a sharp increase in prices for mobile Internet for modems and routers and a significant increase in the number of people permanently or temporarily living outside the city.
One of the products presented by Tricolor was the mobile application for managing television viewing "Second Screen." It is designed to help viewers navigate the program network of channels, and in the future learn how to manage the home television viewing platform.
Active brand collaborations have become an important trend in 2022. One of the partnerships of the year for the operator was cooperation with X5 Group. In November, Tricolor and a grocery retail company signed an agreement under which the online cinema Tricolor Kino and TV became a video service in the subscription Package from X5 Group.
In addition, Tricolor partnered with the# SIMPLE project of the Academy of Digital Technologies. The operator became a mentor in the track "Media," introduced schoolchildren to the latest trends in the field of media and shared knowledge and experience that will help children realize themselves in the profession and career.

Tricolor will continue its technological development based on high-quality equipment and modern service. The operator plans to launch a number of products and services. Tricolor holds high positions in the number of pay-TV customers. At the same time, the operator no longer relies exclusively on satellite television viewing, actively developing additional services and creating its own ecosystem.
"Tricolor Cinema and TV" is more than a classic online cinema. In fact, the company was able to offer users on the Internet almost the same set of channels as on the satellite. Taking into account the multi-million dollar base of Tricolor satellite TV customers who can use the online service at no additional cost, the operator has everything necessary to become one of the leaders in the number of online users, "said Denis Kuskov, CEO of IAA Telecom Daily. |
At the end of 2021, the operator had a total of 281 channels, including 24 TV channels of its own production, of which three were sports topics: Football, Hockey and Sports. Sports TV channels are part of the Tricolor project "Our Sport," which started in March 2021 and aimed at supporting and popularizing all Russian sports, including niche ones.
The share of its own film channels in the total share of satellite television viewing amounted to 12%. In the online service, the share of these channels is 13.6%.
Tricolor continues to connect residents of Russia to the satellite Internet - this operator's project is 5 years old. Tricolor will continue to implement a project on environmentally friendly disposal of receiving equipment. Thanks to this program, customers on favorable terms have the opportunity to replace their receivers with more modern models with support for HD and Ultra HD television viewing formats. The operator sends outdated equipment received from customers for recycling. Over the ten years of the trade-in program from Tricolor, 7 million receivers were recycled at the consumer electronics recycling enterprise.
Tricolor declared 2022 a client year.

At the same time, the subscriber base decreased by 0.4% to 12.22 million customers. Tricolor stated an increase in ARPU by 113 rubles to 1678 rubles per year (almost 140 rubles per month).
If we compare the dynamics of the company's revenue growth with the rate of increase in the income of pay-TV operators on average in the market, it turns out that Tricolor grew faster than competitors. According to preliminary results of iKS-Consulting, in 2018 in the pay TV segment, operators' revenue increased by 5.3% to 85 billion rubles.
At the same time, iKS-Consulting predicts a further decrease in the growth rate of the subscriber base. Tricolor's subscriber base in 2018 decreased by 0.4% to 12.226 million households. In general, the pay TV market, according to preliminary estimates of iKS-Consulting, grew by 1.4% in terms of subscriber base in 2018. Tricolor is still the leader among pay-TV operators in terms of the number of subscribers and occupies a 28% market share (the pay-TV market is 43.3 million subscribers).
- The number of HD subscribers of "Tricolor" reached 10 million households
- Tricolor raised ARPU by 113 rubles to 1678 rubles. (almost 140 rubles per month). At the same time, according to iKS-Consulting, the average account for a pay-TV subscriber per month in 2018 on average in Russia is 164 rubles.
- Tricolor's revenue growth rate exceeded Finam's expected revenue forecast (analysts expected 20 billion rubles). On the contrary, Finam's forecast for a subscriber base of 12.4 million did not materialize. Thus, they draw conclusions in Finam, the main factor in the growth of the company's revenue was ARPU, which increased by 7%[1].

Fine of 1 million rubles for a film with LGBT people
On August 18, 2023, the Moscow Court of St. Petersburg fined the National Satellite Company, which owns the Tricolor Cinema and TV video service, 1 million rubles for publishing a film on the platform promoting non-traditional sexual relations. She was found guilty of committing an administrative crime under Part 3 of Art. 6.21 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations and (or) preferences, gender change).
According to TASS, citing a statement by the press service of the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg, Roskomnadzor drew up a protocol on the company due to the placement of the feature film "Playing with Keys" in the video service. On June 22, 2023, the film was removed from publication, in May they managed to view it on 122 devices, the agency notes. The press service of the courts described in detail what the checking authorities did not like in this picture:
{{quote 'The demonstration is expressed in intervals: 22.59-25.45, where two girls hint at the admissibility of sexual interaction between representatives of the same biological sex; 01.01.37-01.02.25, where male heroes walk in the park and confess to each other in feelings; 01.04.08-01.04.29, which demonstrates the connection and love between men; 01.31.05-01.31.18, which shows a scene of sexual intercourse between two men, etc. (7 more episodes). }} At the same time, the protocol referred to by the press service says that in total, Tricolor TV has 50 thousand hours on channels and in VOD, they are regularly examined by 4 editors. Since December 2022, the editors have completely viewed "from and to" more than 2 thousand titles, as a result, about 1 thousand titles have been censored, of which: 184 have been removed from publication forever; removed, censored and returned - 25; corrected age marking - 790.
On August 17, 2023, the court fined Anatoly Slepenkov, editor-in-chief of the Tricolor video service, for posting the film "Playing with Keys" on the platform, containing propaganda of non-traditional relations. The amount of the fine for the LGBT demonstration amounted to 200 thousand rubles. The chief editor of Tricolor himself did not appear at the court session.[2]
The beginning of the translation of services to the.Ru domain
Tricolor on August 9, 2023 announced that he had begun transferring the company's services to. Russian domain .RU The move will last until the end of 2023, at which time the sites will also be available under the current.TV domain.
The transition is related to security, since the current.TV domain is subject to the laws of another country and can be blocked. In addition, the updated site names correspond to the current positioning of the operator.
We have been preparing for the relocation of sites for a long time and systematically so that the transition is seamless for our customers. The Tricolor brand has long been associated not only with TV, but also with an online cinema, an online store, and the Tricolor Children children's service. In this regard, the rejection of the.TV domain is a natural stage of our updated positioning. In addition, the transition to the Russian domain is an additional guarantee of the safety and reliability of our resources for customers, - said Alexey Lipilin, Marketing Director of Tricolor. |
For users, the changes will be minimal: TV in the address bar will change to the usual RU. For example, the updated address of the operator's main website now looks like this: tricolor.ru. Until the end of 2023, the company's sites will also be available by.TV domain.
Interference in the operation of Tricolor satellite TV channels due to attacks from Ukraine
On August 7, 2023, Tricolor representatives shared information with TAdviser about ongoing attacks on Russian psycho-satellite operators, due to which interruptions in the broadcasting of popular TV channels periodically arise.
As specified in the company, since January 2023, all Russian satellite operators regularly encounter external interference that comes from the territory of a neighboring state. The technical services of the Tricolor operator successfully suppressed interference, but from June 12 they became more powerful and longer. As a result, Tricolor began to apply "new technological solutions" to ensure stable broadcasting, representatives of the operator said.
Between July 21 and July 25, the company managed to completely level the interference. However, since July 26, Tricolor has recorded another powerful wave of attacks on satellite broadcasting in Russia, and the operator's subscribers again faced interference on the air of a number of TV channels.
As of August 7, Tricolor is successfully implementing a plan to counter external interference. The operator's specialists continue to work in an enhanced mode around the clock, the company said in a statement. |
The operator also added that "broadcasting television channels in the online cinema" Tricolor Kino and TV "via the Internet is absolutely stable."
Translation of broadcasting from European satellite to Russian satellite
Tricolor switched broadcasting from a European satellite to a Russian one. This was reported in the press service of the telecommunications company on July 21, 2023.
In order to ensure technological sovereignty and information security, as well as due to the unstable operation of the European satellite, the operator began the transition to Russian, the Tricolor said in a statement. |
The company switched to the Russian satellite Express-AT1, which, according to the press service of the TV operator, provides stable operation throughout Russia. By July 2023, more than 100 TV channels (including the first and second multiplexes) are available on it for free, and in the future their number will be significantly increased.
We support the course towards a Russian product, so we have implemented a technologically complex plan to ensure broadcasting from a Russian satellite. On our part, this required serious financial investments and the connection of colossal technical resources, - said Denis Filipishen, director of broadcasting and information technologies at Tricolor. |
Broadcasting was transferred from a European satellite to a Russian satellite, first in the Kaliningrad region. To switch customers in Kaliningrad need to change the position of the receiving antenna. You can do this yourself using the instructions on the site or call a specialist. Customers from other regions of Russia will not need to reconfigure the equipment, the operator's press service explained.
For Kaliningrad customers, we have allocated a separate service line. On average, we receive about 3,000 requests per day - we cope with the incoming flow, and the waiting time on the line is about one and a half minutes, the company assured.[3] |

2020: Initiation of 11 criminal cases against pirates
Tricolor on March 24, 2021 announced the strengthening of measures to protect content from pirates.
The operator summed up the results of anti-piracy activities in 2020. During this period, at the initiative of the operator, law enforcement agencies initiated 11 criminal cases against residents, Bryansk,, Vladimirskaya,, Vologda, and the Moscow Orlovskaya Pskov regions Stavropol Territory Republic of Alania North Ossetia. The courts of the Moscow, Oryol regions, as well as the Republic Dagestan and the Republic Mari El in 2020 passed convictions against pirates.
2020 turned out to be a landmark in the course of the fight against pirates in the Vladimir region, on the territory of which several people were prosecuted by the courts independently of each other.
The most common cases of violation of the company's interests were the manufacture and distribution of pirated smart cards, modification of equipment for receiving satellite channels, as well as illegal broadcasting of content in the HoReCa segment. Most often, the owners of hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars resorted to such tricks. In addition, the violators misled the consumer by offering the service allegedly on behalf of the operator's official representative, in fact illegally using the Tricolor trademark.
As a result, 13 people were prosecuted in connection with the manufacture and distribution of modified equipment.
The most resonant was the decision of the Novocherkassk City Court of the Rostov Region, which entered into force in February 2020. The heads of one of the local cable operators illegally relayed TV channels of other operators, including Tricolor, to their subscribers through their own networks. The offenders were convicted under Part 3 of Art. 146 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of copyright and related rights) and sentenced, respectively: 2 years 6 months probation with a probationary period of 3 years and 2 years probation with a probationary period of 2 years. In addition, materials were transferred to the court to recover monetary compensation in the amount of 2.7 million rubles.
A real punishment was received by a resident of the Republic of Dagestan, citizen A. for the manufacture of "pirated" smart cards and their distribution. By the verdict of the Khasavyurt City Court in July 2020, he was found guilty of committing crimes under Part 2 of Art. 272 (illegal access to) computer information and Part 2 of Art. 273 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (creation, use and distribution of harmful computer programs), and sentenced to restriction of freedom for a period of 1 year and 6 months.
Tricolor also continues to monitor the facts of illegal broadcasting of television channels in public places. In the HoReCa segment, the company obtained compensation from violators for administrative fines and claims. It was possible to agree with some of the violators in pre-trial order on the conclusion of contracts with the right to public and numbered display.
With administrators and site owners who are not related to the activities of the company and its partners, but illegally use the Tricolor trademark to promote the relevant goods and services, court decisions recovered more than 0.5 million rubles from the operator's claims. In 2020, 7 claims against administrators and site owners are satisfied in full or in part. Access to 4 sites is limited at the stage of claim work, and for 6 - judicial claim work continues.
In December 2020, the decision to recognize the Tricolor trademark as well-known entered into force. This status is valid indefinitely, applies to all categories of services and goods of the operator and multiplies its position in matters of intellectual property protection.
For copyright holders, an important point when concluding agreements with pay-TV operators is the degree of protection of content from pirates. Those companies that pay attention to this issue can count on greater loyalty from partners, including major majors. Our clients can enjoy the best content, in particular, thanks to anti-piracy activities, "says Nikolai Orlov, Deputy General Director for Content Policy at Tricolor. |
Tricolor warns that the legislation of the Russian Federation provides for responsibility for pirated activities not only for sellers of illegal equipment, but also for users. The easiest way to make sure that the equipment is not pirated is to check your current status in your Personal Account. This service allows you to track the status of the balance, the number of days before the end of the subscription and pay for services.
If the installation of the equipment does not conclude a contract for the provision of services and does not provide access to the Personal Account on the site, the user is not an official client, but is an accomplice in the distribution of pirated content.
2018: Rebranding
NAO National Satellite Company announced in August the start of work under the Tricolor brand with an updated logo. Linear television is becoming part of the Tricolor brand, the operator's press service said.
As noted in the press release, the changes in positioning were a reflection of the company's strategy to form a multi-platform digital environment operator, offering a single information space of entertainment and services for the whole family, available from any device.
At the end of 2017, the company announced a change in business strategy and transformation from a linear TV operator to a multi-platform and multi-medium digital environment operator. The new paradigm of development was based on a change in the model of content consumption, as well as the transition of the audience to a digital lifestyle. The main product of Tricolor is a single set of digital services and services, part of which is television viewing.
Public Relations Director of Tricolor Steshin Pavel noted that changing the brand is a balanced decision and a great responsibility to the consumer. He added that in the near future the company plans to introduce new services that will expand the ability for its customers to access the digital environment.
In 2018, Tricolor launched the Tricolor Online TV application for watching online TV channels on hybrid receivers and on Smart TVs (Android, Tizen). And also made television viewing truly mobile by offering a version of the app for smartphones and tablets (Android, iOS). Thus, all customers of the operator can watch online content for free and use the air control services both at home and abroad. The ooperator offers 144 TV channels as part of the service, including 29 in HD format. It is planned that the proposal will be replenished with niche TV channels that are not presented on the satellite platform. So, from January 31, 2019, only subscribers of the Tricolor online service will have access to the Tlum HD TV channel.
2017
Revenue - 19.1 billion rubles
Tricolor TV's revenue in 2017 amounted to 19.1 billion rubles, Adindex reports, citing the company's general director Aleksei Holodov. Revenue growth for the year was 7% - almost three times lower than a year ago, when revenue grew 20.5%, and six times lower than in 2015 (42.7%).
The subscriber base increased by 140 thousand households per year, that is, about 1%, to 12.28 million. At the same time, 78% of all users and 100% of new subscribers are HD subscriptions. The annual ARPU indicator amounted to 1,565 rubles - 70 rubles more than last year.
21 administrative proceedings and 13 criminal cases in connection with violation of the rights of Tricolor TV
During the reporting period, law enforcement officers initiated 21 administrative proceedings and 13 criminal cases in connection with the violation of the rights of Tricolor TV, at the request of the operator, more than 900 Internet resources were blocked. The effectiveness of the anti-piracy campaign is facilitated by the work of law enforcement agencies, as well as positive changes in law enforcement practice.
As part of the work to curb illegal activities to illegally connect individuals to digital television services by installing pirated equipment and malicious programs, law enforcement officials seized more than 160 units of pirated equipment used in illegal activities (65 pirated receivers, 46 smart cards, 44 microcircuits and crypto module and other equipment).
Significant results were achieved in such a direction of combating digital piracy as identifying offenses in the field of malware distribution and modifying equipment to organize illegal access to digital services. Seven more convictions were made to citizens of the Russian Federation, all of them were brought to criminal responsibility and the payment of fines. In total, 13 criminal cases were initiated in Russia and the CIS countries during the reporting period. For the rest of the cases, the investigation is ongoing.
The next important area of anti-piracy activities of Tricolor TV is the suppression of violations of related and copyright rights. The operator identifies cases of illegal broadcasting of TV channels in public places (cafes, waiting rooms for transport hubs, sports clubs, hotels, etc.), that is, without a legal entity concluding an agreement on the right to public display. In 2017, as a result of inspections conducted by representatives of the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the involvement of company employees, 21 administrative proceedings were initiated. At the moment, administrative punishment has been imposed on eight of them for legal entities. The investigation into the rest of the cases is ongoing. Most of the cases of offenses in the B2B segment can be resolved in pre-trial order. In 2017, as part of pre-trial claim work, 47 contracts were concluded with the right to public and numbered display, which is almost four times higher than last year. Positive changes in law enforcement practice contribute to successful work in this direction.
2016: Revenue - RUB 17.9 billion
The revenue of Tricolor TV in 2016 amounted to 17.9 billion rubles, which is 20.5% more than a year earlier. In 2015, however, the percentage of growth was twice as high - by 42.7%.
The number of Tricolor TV subscribers increased by 5% to 12.14 million, of which 8.5 million in 2016 connected to HD packages - this is 28.8% more than last year's results. ARPU amounted to 1,495 rubles, showing an increase of 13.7%.
2015: Revenue - RUB 14.85 billion
The satellite television operator Tricolor TV in 2015 increased revenue by 42.7% compared to 2014, to 14.85 billion rubles, and the subscriber base - to 11.8 million subscribers, which is 881 thousand more than in 2014.
The number of Tricolor TV subscribers connected to high definition (HD) television increased by 45% to 6.6 million. The share of HD subscribers from the total base of Tricolor TV increased over the year from 41.7% to 55.9%.
The operator also announced an increase in the annual ARPU from 998 rubles in 2014 to 1315 rubles in 2015. Tricolor TV explains this growth by the massive introduction of HD services and a service for watching TV channels on two screens within the same subscription. In addition, the operator notes the stable interest of users in additional TV packages.
According to the company, HD television users are active consumers of multi-screen services: about 30% of new connections in the central part of Russia and up to 50% in the Siberian Federal District were connections to the Unified Multi service, which opens access to a service for watching television programs on two TVs.
2014
Revenue growth by 28% to 10.4 billion rubles
The Tricolor TV provider increased revenue by 28%, connected almost one and a half million new subscribers, launched broadcasting in full in Siberia, part of the Far East and the Urals, presented accounting policies that meet world standards and proposed a new television viewing format.
In 2014, the growth of the subscriber base continued, and the growth of HD television viewing "Tricolor TV" exceeded the indicators of previous periods. Thus, the total number of new connections amounted to 1,400,000 subscribers, the operator's active base reached 10,919,000 viewers, while the number of high-definition television subscribers increased by 45%.
The subscriber base indicators are calculated in accordance with the new accounting policy approved by the operator on January 1, 2015. According to international standards, Tricolor TV subscribers are persons who have a valid paid subscription to the main service of the operator.
"Marketing policy and the introduction of new services allow Tricolor TV not only to maintain a high level of subscriber loyalty, but also to remain one of the most stable developing market operators," the operator's press service said. Thus, the increase in ARPU amounted to 24% compared to last year, - 998 rubles against rubles 805 rubles in 2013. Annual revenue increased by 28% - to 10.4 billion rubles.
All new Tricolor TV subscribers have access to the modern television standard - HDTV. According to the results of 2014, 4,550,000 subscribers pay for the services of the operator, providing the ability to watch TV channels in HD format. At the same time, 25 HD channels and more than 140 SD channels are part of the main service. The share of HD subscribers from the total operator base increased from 30.6% to 41.2%.
The growth rate of the number of HD subscribers is associated, among other things, with the large-scale equipment exchange program implemented jointly with the operator's technological partner. As part of the program, users are provided with special conditions for exchanging earlier models for receivers with support for the HD standard. When switching to a new television viewing format, the operator ensures the transfer of previously paid subscriptions.
In 2014, Tricolor TV launched a number of new projects. So, in the spring of 2014, the entire range of services "Tricolor TV," including high-definition television, became available to residents of Siberia, part of the territory of the Urals and the Far East. On October 22, Tricolor TV was the first in Russia to begin regular broadcasting of the channel in ULTRA HD format.
Last year, the operator introduced a number of services that qualitatively change the possibilities of television viewing. In June, Tricolor TV launched the Multiroom service. Its main advantage is the ability to view any paid packages on two screens. For 7 months of 2014, since the start of the service, about 50% of new connections were connections to the system that opens access to this service.
On November 19, 2014, Tricolor TV brought five mobile television applications to the pay-TV market. For example, the "Play.Tricolor" application allows a subscriber to view TV channels of both the main and additional packages on a mobile device within households. All applications were first presented on the Tricolor TV Teleplanchet. At the moment, more than 100 thousand such devices have already been connected. Development in this direction is a priority for the company, in particular, a competition for developers of mobile applications was launched in December. During the competition, participants will offer original concepts of applications for smartphones and tablets on the Android platform. The winner of the competition will be given a grant for further development.
Tricolor TV moves from Moscow to St. Petersburg
Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Satellite Company (NSC, Tricolor TV brand) Andrei Tkachenko signed a cooperation agreement in December 2014. In accordance with this document, NSC will re-register its headquarters from Moscow to St. Petersburg and will register the tax registration of[4].
The authorities of the Northern capital, within the framework of city legislation, will provide tax benefits to the NSC. We are talking about the Law of St. Petersburg "On Tax Incentives," which provides for tax breaks for companies from a number of industries, including telecommunications. At the end of last year, the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg expanded the migration of these industries at the expense of enterprises from the field of television and radio broadcasting.
To receive tax benefits, the company must make investments in the city in the amount of at least 800 million rubles during a period lasting no more than three years and starting no earlier than 2010. After that, the regional income tax rate for such an enterprise will be reduced from 18% to 13.5%.
The agreement between the NSC and the administration of St. Petersburg states that the parties will jointly resolve the issues of distributing digital television signal for residents of the city. Among other things, the NSC will provide signal delivery to buildings - cultural monuments under state protection, as well as to objects not covered by the television signal distribution system.
In addition, the NSC pledged to promote the restoration of architectural and historical monuments and social infrastructure. The structure of future investments in NSCs is not disclosed in more detail. At the same time, the company noted that a number of its structural divisions are already in the northern capital.
2013: Revenue - 8.1 billion rubles
At the end of the year, Tricolor TV's subscriber base increased by 18.4% and reached 14.1 million subscribers. At the same time, the increase in ARPU amounted to 10.8% compared to last year, - 805 rubles against rubles 726 rubles in 2012. Annual revenue increased by 28% to 8.1 billion rubles.
In the revenue structure, 85.8% of income falls on the main service, 14.2% - on additional services. Last year, this ratio was different: 88% and 12%, respectively. The growth of the indicator was facilitated by the launch of new additional services: Detsky, Musical, Our Football in HD format, Golden Card. All inclusive. " In addition, Tricolor TV launched a premium package of film channels of its own production, SuperKino HD. The advantage of the service is exclusive film premieres from the world's largest producers of film content. For example, the last and highest-grossing Bond film, 007: Skyfall Coordinates, was first shown on Russian television in 30.11.2013 (the premiere took place on Tricolor TV on an exclusive basis).
Since the beginning of 2013, the growth of the operator's full subscriber base amounted to 2.2 million households. The relative number of paying subscribers to the total base of Tricolor TV is approximately 71.6%.
As of March 25, 2013, Tricolor TV is the leader in the European pay-TV market in terms of the number of subscribers (over 12.4 million registered users, including 9.12 million active) and is one of the five largest operators in the world. The total audience of Tricolor TV is about 40 million people. The broadcasting regions of the company are the European part of Russia, the Urals, Siberia and part of the Far East.
2012
Revenue - 6.3 billion rubles
The company's revenue in 2012 increased by 43% compared to 2011 and reached RUB 6.3 billion. At the same time, ARPU (revenue per subscriber) grew by 15% and amounted to 726 rubles. against 629 rubles. in 2011
The growth of ARPU is especially significant for the operator, traditionally focused on low-income segments of the population who are not interested in using additional paid services. However, in 2012, Tricolor TV decided to change its content policy and expand its subscribers.
88% of the operator's revenue in 2012 brought basic services, and 12% - additional services. In 2011, these figures were 89% and 11%, respectively. The growth of the share of additional services was facilitated by the launch of the Tricolor TV Cinema Hall service: over three months of commercial operation, about 200 thousand users subscribed to it.
The main factor in the growth of Tricolor TV indicators in the company is considered a change in content policy: in Q1 2012, foreign brands first appeared in Tricolor TV packages. In July 2012, the first HD multiplex "Tricolor TV" was formed, which included 25 high-definition television channels (HDTV). Already in early January 2013, the number of HD multiplex subscribers reached 1 million, which is 5 times more than the number of HDTV users registered nationwide at the end of July 2012.
Mordachev's departure
On August 14, 2012, the National Satellite Company announced the departure of President Vyacheslav Mordachev. Mordachev himself said that he was leaving of his own free will, and is now considering several proposals for future work, including from abroad.
"In the last year or two, the operator has become a perfectly organized, easily managed company, conquering all new market frontiers without much effort," says Vyacheslav Mordachev. "I am proud that I had a hand in the success of Tricolor TV, but at the same time I feel a certain lack of adrenaline, which was in abundance when the company was just fighting for a place in the sun." Makarov called Mordachev's departure "an unconditional loss for the company[5].
In 2009, it was announced that Gazprom-Media Holding, which owns the first Russian satellite TV operators NTV-Plus, was acquiring NSC. True, the deal has not yet taken place.
"Perhaps the shareholders of the NSC were unhappy with the rate of monetization of Tricolor TV subscribers, because the NSC business model, built on equipment sales, cannot work endlessly," says one of the participants in the satellite communications market. "However, it is possible that the sale of the NSC will still take place, and the management itself is leaving on the eve of this transaction."
2013: VTB Capital bought a minority stake in CJSC National Satellite Company (Tricolor TV brand)
The size of the package and its cost were not disclosed.
2005 - 2011
The NSC was created in 2005. The operator relied on broadcasting the basic package of channels without a subscription fee - the consumer must pay only for the purchase and installation of equipment. Initially, it was planned that the operator would earn on payments from the TV channels themselves. But in 2006, Mordachev became the general director of the NSC, who abandoned this idea.
Instead, it was decided to make money on extended channel packages, which were already offered to subscribers for an additional fee. As a result, NSC became the fastest growing TV operator in Europe, the dominant operator in the Russian satellite TV market (its share in 2012 is 85%) and the leader in the Russian pay TV market (35%). The number of NSC subscribers is 10 million, the average revenue per user is 630 rubles. in year.
In the fall of 2011, Mordachev moved to the post of president of the NSC, where he focused on interaction with the company's strategic partners and government bodies. The position of general director was first transferred to the director of commerce Pavel Basov, but in February 2012 he left the NSC. The new general director was the managing director Alexander Makarov.
